White Rattan

We came across this set of sixties rattan furniture  recently. It is excellent condition. It was in a beach house in Hilton Head, South Carolina. It is chippy and will stay that way. The striped pillows are down filled.  All the cushions are slip covered. We removed that large damask covered chaise from the living room and we feel this is a lighter brighter look. It somehow goes with the house. Joe and I think of this house as a cottage. It does have corbels after all.

The petite chandelier, found by brother Bob and SIL Sue, is just right for our narrow entry way. As you have seen I have not gone to an all white palette but added white and softened the look of the living room. Joe likes the pink wool rug. Me, not so much. I see something lighter and less formal in this space. When I run across it I will know.

I will be joining Kathleen for White Wednesday at Faded Charm. Please visit the others for more white goodness.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall

Goodbye Summer. Our little flower garden in the backyard is winding down. I have been sitting outside and basking in the cooler drier air. Fall is coming. I am thrilled. The hummingbirds are very busy. These are some of the last summer images of our little flower garden. This is our first season we have had working in it. The azaleas in the background are blooming now. They are Encore azaleas. I am told we are fortunate to have them and not to prune them.

That huge begonia was purchased on clearance and once placed in the ground just flourished. The above ferns and climber were bought on Saturday one half off. Digging in the dirt and planting plants in the garden is so relaxing for me.

Outside and Inside

This is exactly the opposite of what I usually do. Normally I photograph objects on the window seat inside  the house. This time I am outside and Clovis the C-Cat is sleeping inside on the window seat. He never knew I took the picture.

He has taken over the window seat. I have tired of vacuuming the cushion so I have taken it out. He is not happy with this turn of events.

Look At What We Found In Our Own Backyard

Joe has been working in the back yard of our old house. He has brought out some old house objects that are really cool. I put the pics in warmfly.  I especially like the bathtub in warmfly. You know you are a redneck if…tennille yard 012

Joe pulled this cypress stump out of the Oconee River while he was rowing a canoe. Good thing he did not fall in the river. It was a true balancing act. He calls it “Mr. Stump.” There are alligators in that river for heavens sake!

Our back yard at the old house is filled with rusty objects. My future Barn Chicks post for Karen’s link party at Brayton Homestead Interiors September third will feature our outbuildings and spider webs. I know you do not wish to miss it! I will tell you a secret about the bathtub next Friday. Stay tuned.

The Alley

This is an oddly cool alley in a town near our old house. It has a nail care business and this gal really keeps the outside of her shop looking swell. Note the staircase. Curvy baby.

Just a few yards down from this shop is the most gorgeous shabby door. I want it. Lovely scroll work.north harris st. s.ville june 2010 017

We had our daughter’s senior picture taken in front of this door. The picture is one of my favorites. I wish the owner would do something about this door before it rots from water damage. north harris st. s.ville june 2010 013I do not know this woman who owns this shop with the curvy staircase, window, and garden but I like her spirit. She could write a blog I imagine.

Supper,Windows, and a Find

We had some new neighbor friends for supper last night. Joe and I really enjoy cooking for others at the yellow house.

The menu:

roast beef with Vidalia onions, potatoes, and carrots

steamed broccoli

wheat rolls

cheesecake (brought by our friends)

I placed this odd ivy we have growing in the yard in the window seat in an iron stone pitcher. This ivy does not climb it mounds. I will use it at Christmas, I think, for decorating.

On the kitchen sink, in my Granny’s Lenox vase, are some butterfly bush blooms. We have excellent light in this window and I spend a good amount of time in this spot so why not have flowers?

We found a beachy white and cream rattan sofa and chair at a garage sale yesterday. The sofa cushions are cream colored. I wanted the chair. Joe wanted the sofa. They are from the 1960’s and are in pretty good shape. A little chippy but the blue and white stripe cushions on the chair are just perfect with my rug. Plus I like chippy. Now I must rethink the entire furniture layout of the yellow house. Fun.windows aug 003

That C-Cat checked the chair out and wormed his way into the picture.

Happy Sunday Friends!

Nineteen, Goodness Gracious!

She was born on a Tuesday. Early in the morning. She was planned and wanted oh so very much. I went to an infertility doctor for some time. She weighed 2lbs 9oz. She lost the 9oz and had to start over at 2lbs. She seriously looked like an albino squirrel. She was covered in white fur, the lanugo that covers babies in the last trimester.

She is nineteen today!cc birthday 19 011

Happy Birthday Baby! cc birthday 19 009

Where did nineteen years go? She is in her second year of college already and I cannot believe it. She does not look her age. She gets mistaken for a thirteen year old often. She is always gracious about it.

cc birthday 19 010

CC, I love you more now than I ever have. From that tiny neonate to the lovely young lady you have become you have been a pure joy. I especially love that you have a heart for others. You put people first and that is a wonderful gift. Now, if you would just clean your swamp….I mean your room.

She has had every color of hair available in a box. This pink is especially cute. One of my favorites was platinum blonde but it was way too expensive.

She calls her Mama every day. Sweet.

As summer is winding down I am re-visiting my friends porch for White Wednesday at Faded Charm. Today is the day. We are packing two Jeeps. Two. It is raining in middle Georgia and taking our large trailer is not an option. CC, our daughter, is starting her second year of college. When she is home she is a delightful miniature storm. It will be quiet now. She will be missed very much.

I attended a funeral yesterday of a friend. She was seventy-one and the service was very sweet. Her son was so upset he did not attend. Will he regret this?

I leave you with a photo of a beautiful home on North Harris St.

Happy Sunday!north harris st. s.ville june 2010 031-1

Now that is some porch! Or porches.

Now I must get ready for church. My dear friends, have a blessed day. Hug your mother. Or your daughter…you get my drift…hugs♥olive

Cloudy With a Side Of Stained Glass

I almost never post images in real time. I woke early today with the idea of taking photos of a church two blocks from our old house. It has beautiful gothic arches with plenty of stained glass windows. Guess what? Not one ray of sunshine. Not one. I went any way. The glass is half full side of me knows the day is much cooler because of the heavy cloud cover.tenn. church 010

We ride by this lovely church all the time and yet I have never visited it until today. The windows are beautiful. Someone had just mowed the grass and trimmed all the hedges. Sweet.tenn. church 014

Is not this just a darling church? I love these gothic stained glass windows.  It makes me wonder what the inside looks like. Thanks bunches for joining me on this cloudy Friday in Georgia.
