Vintage Ornaments or Not?

We went to a couple of estate sales on Saturday and one garage sale. The three of us had fabulous fun. Because of you my blogging buddies I have been looking for vintage Christmas ornaments and bottle brush trees and I found both. I think.

You tell me. Are these vintage? I paid one dollar for the entire box.

I love the pine cone and the pear. So what is the verdict? Vintage or not? I love them  what ever the verdict and need a table top tree for them. I do want to be able to recognize vintage.

CC and I are off to go shopping at our favorite thrift stores in what we hope are relatively quiet locations. I know I am delusional.

Wishing all of you a Happy Christmas!

  1. Yes, definitely vintage. If you look at the metal caps, they are simpler and duller thatn the new ones and the wire are tarnished. New ornaments have a more crimped cap and very shiny.

These are lovely and in mint condition. Nice find.

  2. I'm not sure. I would say they are new, made to look vintage. We have some like that. The colors seem a bit too vivid for vintage. And the silver at the top looks pretty new.

  5. Hello Olive... I do not believe they are vintage... sorry!... I think someone has tried to make them look like they are, but in my 40+ years of collecting vintage Christmas, I would say no... they did not use actual glitter way back, and I think they have distressed the caps... try to see if the caps say anything on them, then drop me an email and I can tell you more from that if you would like... they are still beautiful!... Be happy with them... xoxo Julie Marie idyllhours@q.com

  6. Vintage or not you got a bargain and some pretties to hang on the tree! I have to go with "no" because they don't look worn enough - I say reproductions, but love them! Ann

  8. I'm thinkin' they're old, probably from the 50's? I'm no expert, but I think the caps appear to be older, but whichever, they are a neat bunch at a great price, so I say Have Fun!! I want to go thriftin' too!!!

  10. I bought an ornament with the same shape as the hot pink one in the 1980's. The caps are similar. Mine was marked Made in Russia. The caps on the pears look like aluminum which might be a key to their age.

  13. I'm gonna waffle on these - something about the caps on some of them looks a little off to me...I'd have to touch them. (When Apple comes up with an computer that lets you reach into the monitor and touch the item, I'll be first in line to buy it!)
In any case, they are pretty and your photos, as always are marvelous.

  14. For a dollar...who cares? Old or repop, they are fantastic especially the mandolin. Heck that one alone is worth at least what you paid for the whole box.
New is when you go into a store and buy it off the shelf...did you do that? There you go!
One other tiny caveat...Shiny Brite is reproducing themselves and the tops say shiny brite as well! FYI

  20. I think they look 1980's to me...but made to be similar to old. I consider 1980 vintage...so yes...vintage....

A friend of mine has some similar to this that she bought new in the mid 80's.

I wish you could find ornaments like this new now. I looked at ornaments today and found nothing as nice as these.

So I think they were a great find.

  23. Hello- I have no idea if they are vintage or not, but they certainly are very pretty! What a great find! I went to an estate sale recently and found a little alpine village that is illuminated by lights- again no idea if it is vintage, but I adore it. Happy Holidays!
