Deep South Snow

We estimate we have three inches of snow on the ground.
We are so far south that is pretty darn good for us.
Those of you who have frequent snow and cold are not impressed.
You measure snow by the foot.

Snow paralyzes the South. We have few to zero salt trucks. Bridges close. I once was stuck in the hospital working as an R.N. for about eighteen hours because I could not get across the Savannah River. I slept in a storage room and got up and worked day shift the next morning.

CC, our daughter, loves snow and is seeing quite a bit of it in South Korea.

Shelley, our other kiddo, had great fun playing ball with his daddy this morning.
Shelley captured (stole) that football from Lord only knows where.

I hope you are warm and safe wherever you are my dear friends.

joy and peace
Olive

  1. What fabulous photos! I love the lawn chair and Shelley of course! Your home could be a Christmas card for this year! It sure is 'purty' seeing the blanket of white way down south! Stay warm today! It was fun mentioning you on my blog this morning and showing off my new pillows! Sweet hugs!

  2. Snow on the sweet gum balls - my favorite! I am loving it. Our street is snow-covered ice. We are staying in today.

  3. I was hoping you were going to post some snow photos today! I was watching the coverage of the snow in Atlanta on tv this morning and it looks pretty scary on the roads. So stay safe and warm at home playing with the fur babies!

  4. We had about 3 inches also. I would think that if the climate during the winters keeps extending into the southern states that at some point they will need to invest in snow removal equipment and also de-ice the streets. Glad to hear you are warm inside today!

  5. Oh your snow photos are wonderful! Snow is maybe not quite so rare for us, but rare enough! It has made for such a mess for some people. Glad you're able to enjoy it. So nice to have you pop by! It's been a quiet few months on the blog for me and I've missed visiting you. Thanks for the nice comment on my "signature" shop space. But "selling a bit of everything" sounds pretty good to me!

  6. Your photos continue to awe me! You make it all look so magical as if we could measure it by the foot!

  7. Your home looks so charming dressed up with snow...and dogs love fresh snow to play in!

  8. Love your photos Olive, especially the back of the chair! We got 2 inches yesterday, so pretty to see but it does cause things to come to a grinding halt in the south. My sister lives in Atlanta, it took her 7 hours to get home from work, the perfect storm with no road prep, freezing temps and everyone leaving at the same time.

  9. I imagine 3 inches is quite a bit when you're not used to it, particularly for drivers.

  10. Dear Olive - well here is someone who is impressed. For some reason I imagined that you never had snow where you live. This winter we have had no snow at all - but as they say never, say never.

  12. Your snow pics are so pretty! I took quite a few around here too. I am enjoying how pretty it is without having to be outside in it. I felt so bad for all the people stuck in traffic overnight. Glad that you are home and safe and sound.

  13. Just beautiful Olive! Love the pic of the bench...so peaceful. I too have been stuck working in the hospital on several occasions during my 17 year career because there was no way for me to go home or anyone else to get in. That is not fun but you do feel like you made a difference when all is said and done. Our dog loves the snow as well...there is just something about dogs and snow...they are just like little children playing.
Hope you are staying nice and warm...thank you too for sharing the beauty of your southern snow!
    XO Barbara

  15. Isn't if fun Olive to have the snow? We are buried it in here, it takes feet and below zero temps to affect us northerners.

  16. I remember when we used to live in Marietta, that Atlanta was paralyzed when it snowed, and understandably with all the hills and curves. But I do have to say it looks lovely. great photos, Olive. Stay safe and warm! xoxo

  22. Your pictures are lovely Olive!! As long as you're able to view the beautiful snow from the inside - it's great at least once a year!
Unbelievable what happened in Atlanta!! I was stuck in it for 2 hours in the north part of Atlanta, but my two daughters live downtown and one made it home about 7pm last night and the oldest didn't get home - with her baby- until today. She and her husband live at the bottom of a steep hill and they ended up making it to a friends house at 9:00 last night!! My heart is resting today!!

  23. Such pretty pictures. While on I am the coast of SC, in Beaufort, we had a dusting but some sleet with it. Yesterday we were in Charleston and had to be off do bridges by 4 pm. We did arrive home safely. Stay warm.

  24. Your pictures are pretty (I love your house!), but you're right, I'm not impressed with 3" of snow. That's just a dusting. ;-) We still have at least a foot on the ground here, and more snow forecasted for tomorrow and Saturday. Ho hum!

  25. Olive, Your pics are pretty. We got mostly ice in south Alabama but had plenty of warning. What horror stories abound in Birmingham and Atlanta. Made the national news!

  26. I have been watching the reports of the snow in the south including Georgia and wondered about you. It is one thing to see the snow, even enjoy it a bit but an entire other thing to answer the call of how to navigate through it all when there is no equipment to do so.
Wishing and hoping for your warmth and safety.

  27. Beautiful images. We have so few snowfalls, we can remember each one. I'm sure you'll remember this one for a very long time.
Hey - tell CC I want more South Korean news!

  28. Your snow photos are beautiful, Olive! I saw the awful pile up on the highway there. We are getting another few inches here today. At least it will cover up the dirty piles of snow that are here.
    Stay safe and warm.

  29. Looks like Shelley is ready for the Super Bowl! Stay warm and safe!

  30. Great snow pics..We only had about 2 1/2 inches here. It's still hanging on, but temp is rising so hopefully most of it will be gone today.

  31. All dogs seem to love snow! It's been a heavy snow winter for us and I will be very happy to see the first signs of spring.

  32. Yeah I am unimpressed by the snow but am impressed by your lovely photos.
