Hummingbirds

I captured, with my camera, our humming birds this morning.
I am always thrilled to see them and then to catch them on camera as quick as they zip zip around is a bonus. Is it just me or do they sound like squeak toys when they are in the trees?

The day lilies and lantana are blooming. The hummers drink nectar from the lantana. I have noticed the hummers are more active now that the temperatures are reaching 90 every afternoon. I will be refilling the numerous hummer feeders tonight. I do not keep them full because it is so hot here. I just turned on the air conditioning and am not happy about that. Last year I did not turn it on until June. I cannot have CC roasting upstairs though. She is too sweet for that.

Wishing all of you a wonderful day.
CC and I have errands to run and are having lunch out somewhere.

happy bird watching

  1. You're good! Good camera, too. What is it? We have two sets of hummers each year. First the migratory group, then the ruby throats, who stay all summer. The first migratory hummer who comes through knocks on our door to put out the feeders. This is true. They don't say goodbye when they leave, however. We had the knock on the door yesterday.

  4. Great shots. I hung out our one feeder last week when a hummer was flitting around our windows at the sun room. Wow, we have had our air on for weeks. I don't like to be hot inside and now it isn't working. The repair man is coming in the morning and I hope he can fix it.

  6. Great pictures if the humming birds. I didn't get many last year. The Oriels like the humming bird feeder better than the humming birds. Hopefully I can atract more this year.

  7. Great photos! Did you see my post today that I had another hummingbird in my house? This one stayed for hours. I was getting quite worried about her. I moved my feeder off the deck last year because of this. But and I hate to say this...I had not put my feeders out yet...I guess she was going looking for it. I do think they sound like squeaky toys. My little one was squeaking away.

  8. Hummingbirds are amongst my favorite birds. They are like tiny helicopters flying up and down and zipping around the flowers so fast. They are bossy too! :-)

  12. Olive, your hummingbird photo is fabulous! They sure move quickly, don't they? I absolutely love them and love watching them. They love our bushes and the fuchsia. I found very tiny nests last year in my roses so I had to make sure no neighborhood cats walked through my roses and disturbed them in any way. At first I thought the nests were just a gathering of spider webs but all of a sudden I saw movement. It was wonderful. Wow, your photos are wonderful!

  16. I love hummingbirds. Here, they love red salvia. Just the other day I bought some grape jam and later realized that I also should have purchased some grape jelly for the hummingbirds! Great pics. :-)

  17. If you love hummingbirds you must visit this streaming video site. It is a live broadcast of 2 baby hummingbirds in their nest. Wait through the advertisement, it is truly worth it! http://www.ustream.tv/worldofhummingbirds
I saw it after watching my niece's broadcast of baby chickens hatching in her kindergarden classroom.

  22. What great captures, Olive! I 've never spotted any hummingbirds in the neighborhood. Our AC went on last week - the humidity gets yucky. I spent some time getting some planting done- sure would like my flowers looking like yours!!
    Stay cool!

  23. Great shots Olive! I haven't seen any hummingbirds yet this year. In years past they would buzz by as I was sitting on the bench on our basement patio. They are so interesting and beautiful~
