Garden Party

Sarah at Modern Country Style is having an English Garden Party.

I have revisited our garden at the yellow house in July last summer when we had roses and tiger lilies in bloom.

This makes me long for summer, the heat, the grass cutting, and the hedge trimming.

I cut our grass with a push mower.

 I need the exercise.

February is the month to trim monkey grass and prune roses in the South.

Climbing roses should be pruned after they bloom.

I started those tasks yesterday and we have a vast amount of monkey grass...monkeys went wild in our yard.

I am terrible with roses and will not plant anymore. I give up :(

Please visit Sarah to see her English Garden.

  2. Those tiger lilies are beautiful!

I mow our lawn with a push mower too, and that's because I have so many roses that we don't have much lawn left:-). I was done pruning my roses last week, good luck and don't forget those gloves...

  6. When you said push mower I was picturing one of the old vintage non-electric ones. I suppose you are talking about one with an engine though. Love the tiger lily photos.

  7. Olive, darling, if you think you may change your mind about more roses, I will be happy to see what I can do to make them less work for you. I love the photo of your tiger lily!

  8. Dear Olive,
What beautiful photographs of your garden. We have had the most lovely weather here today which has given us the promise that Spring is just around the corner. ....my favourite time of year. Our garden faces north so, roses don't grow very well although we do have two climbers that do very well and, in our front garden, we have a David Austin rose that blooms from April to October.
.... and, many, many thanks for your birthday wishes. ....I am still celebrating !! XXXX

  9. I'm seriously considering getting a goat to cut the yard! I can't see Tiger Lilies without thinking of Peter Pan. What does that say about me.
I never had any luck with roses either until I planted my first David Austin. Oh mylanta...try 'em. You will fall in love!

  10. Your tiger lilly's are gorgeous. And, so is your rose...you are obviously better than you think with roses. Beautiful. I am also so ready for spring and to hear birds singing again.

  12. Great pics Olive! I'm with you, I gave up on the roses a couple years ago. I once asked a Rose Society Member "what's the best thing to keep aphids off your roses?". Her response was "your neighbors roses". I understand:@)

  16. Olive these look wonderful and I wouldn't worry about those roses. I have come to the conclusion that either you are a rose person, or you are not. I am not, for whatever reason. However, your pictures are stunning. THanks for the treat! Ann

  25. So fun to see you over
    at Sarah's garden party.
    There is nothing like a
    southern tiger lily ~
    they are amazing!! We
    have wild orange ones
    that grow by the roadsides
    here, but they don't have
    the tiger "spots," nor
do they grow as big. I'm
    so envious that spring
    is springing in your area!!
    Happy Valentines Day, T!
    xx Suzanne
