In With the Brown and Blue

In with the brown and blue.

Out with the pink.

I do like pink my darlings, I was just over the horrid pink rug with the blue butterflies. We had that very nice wool rug with a Greek key border for eight years and I wanted a less formal look. The living space at the yellow house is right off the deck and the flower garden and we are outside, via the almost French doors, all the time and the rug needs to take a beating.

Nita at Mod Vintage Life does pink the best. Please visit her blog as her Tudor home is charming and best of all so is Nita.

It is an outdoor patio rug and we like that. Some of you astute readers of Olive Out had suggested a natural fiber rug in another post when I was carrying on about the pink one. I do pay attention to every comment. After all this is porch rattan furniture {all from a garage sale}.
The print, on the stone fireplace, is framed in a metal frame and that is important and really the main reason we bought it other than the bluish gray coastal image. The fireplace causes wood frames to get very hot. We are looking for an interesting large metal something  to hang up there and we will know it when we see it.

Joe and I found the old leather suitcase at an estate sale. Joe thought me kind of nuts for buying it but that is not unusual when we thrift together. It is quite heavy and I sat it down here when I brought it in the house and like it so much right stays!

The cost of the transformation:
Patio rug $35.00 garage sale
Coastal print $5.00 garage sale
Little footstool .50 cents
That's at total of $40.50

The living room in all it's pink glory.

You cannot see the butterflies in this image...that is a shame.
We still have a few touches of pink here and there. Joe has a piece of modern art {not shown} that stays of course and it has a lot of pink.

I am partying here:

I love the new look. And I love the suitcase.

    Have a wonderful week!

  4. Helloooo Miss Olive, I'm loving the new look, it's just wonderful! I'm in awe of your great steals, you are the best little buyer I know!

  5. Thanks for the shout out. I had a yellow, pink and multi-color rug in my living room for awhile and just got where I couldn't stand to look at it any more. I still don't have my ideal rug....just a Target cheapy for now....but someday.

  6. I LOVE old suitcases. I almost prefer them to new ones. Actually, scratch that, I *do* prefer them to new ones!! And yours is particularly lovely.

  7. I loved the old suitcase also! It looks just great behind that chair.

  8. Everything looks wonderful! I have an indoor/outdoor rug in my lakehouse, you would never know it since natural fibers are so great to use indoors now. I LOVE your fireplace and the suitcase is very cool!

  9. I like the new rug much better - it's just the right touch! And - what a deal!

  10. Pretty room Olive! I need to shop for a rug for our back porch.
    The stone fireplace is beautiful!

    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  12. It's a great new look for you! Love your new old suitcase. Besides looking great, I store tons of stuff in them. I think I have them in every room of my house! Tell Joe. :)

  13. It's very pretty. The new rug grounds it really well--and I've found that outdoor rugs REALLY take a great beating indoors. :)
I love th suitcase! They're one of my favorite finds.
    Happy Tuesday!

  14. It looks good, Olive! Love the rug. I had a rose dining room for 8 yrs. I grew to really dislike it, went to sage!

  15. Olive,
Love the new rug and that suitcase is soooo awesome!!! Thanks for coming to my PARTY:)

  16. The new rug is perfect with your "porch furniture"! Good luck finding your metal something for over the fireplace. We are on a similar quest for a newly painted wall that looks very bare. Thanks for visiting my table this week!

  17. Hi Olive, I love the changes you've made and that suitcase! The browns and blues makes the room feel so warm and inviting. The stone fireplace is gorgeous.

    Enjoy your day,

  18. I like your change ... but I'd sure keep that pink rug ... maybe use it in a bedroom. It is a beautiful rug ... but in my living space it would have been covered with black dog hair all the time! Great change ... thanks for sharing.

  19. I DO like the new look- it's very fresh and contemporary. It adds a nice contrast to the other furnishings in the room. I love the suitcase, too. I look for them every time we're out thrifting. It looks good behind that chair, BTW. :-)
    ~ Sue

  20. I love your home, Olive. It looks wonderful. It looks so much brighter, fresher and lighter with the pastel colors. I love your curtains!...Christine

  21. Hi Olive!
I agree, the changes are great. And what thrifty bargains you found! Way to go!

  22. Very nice. Love that little footstool.

  23. Dearest Olive,

Did you ever sign in as a Georgia blogger here:

I am already a follower of you and enjoyed reading about all your treasures!

    Lots of love,

  24. Mariette-she does not list me, I think, because I do not show her button. I have no button myself and I show nobody's buttons so that's okay.

  25. Great new look Olive! You can't beat those deals! And I love that suitcase! I would've grabbed it in a red hot second!
I would've never thought in a million years that you couldn't put up a wood frame due to heat on that fireplace? But your metal framed picture looks great!....At least until you find that perfect metal "thing" that you'll know when you see. I know just what you mean. it'll just jump right out attcha! LOL! Vanna

  26. So charming Olive...I love this room and would spend a lot of time in there.

  27. Just stopped by for a visit from Southern Savvy Style WUW. What an adorable house - what an adorable blog. Stop by and visit mine sometime too :)

  28. A lovely and cozy home... thanks for sharing

  29. Hi Olive!
Your room looks great now! I love the changes you've made and that vintage suitcase would have made it home with me too. I love those things!
Your weathervane with red glass inserts sounds amazing. You'll have to email me a picture sometime and share it. I have never seen anything like it sounds as you have described it!

  30. "Unexpected chocolates".... superb analogy, Olive!
    Happy Easter.
May the bunny bring you some of those unexpected pleasures too.

I adore your comments. They are like finding unexpected chocolates. olive
