Painting Badly

How many members of the Olive Out staff does it take to paint the lid of a jar?
Two apparently.
Not that there is a staff. Just Joe and me.

I found the large jar at an estate sale.
It had an ugly brown lid.

It needed painting badly so I painted it badly.

I changed the nozzle on the spray paint can, made a squillion drips and Joe had to rescue the lid with his pocket knife and heavily distress it.

The ornaments seem to be old and I acquired them at an estate sale for nothing.
I think I stole them.
I did actually steal two lamps (we re-sell all these lamps) on Saturday from the nicest man.
I drove away and realized that I had not paid him and when I returned to his sale he said he could not remember so just take them.
I paid him.

I also painted a few Christmas items on Saturday that did not require Joe's assistance.
Maybe there is hope for me.

  2. How cute Olive! You are Joe are too funny!!! Love your old ornaments. My brother has my Mom's old ornaments that he found when he was going through all the Christmas boxes she had that I will be getting. Can't wait to bring them home with me on Thursday.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  3. That sounds like some of my painting adventures. But y'all salvaged it perfectly. Love it!

It was funny too about you driving away with the lamps. And what a sweetheart you both were. He to say not to worry about it and you to pay him.

  7. Staff?! I am a staff of one and often wish I could fire myself! lol Your free finds should net you some bucks and make up for the aggravation of your painting issues, right? You're lucky Joe is handy with the knife. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day! gobble gobble

  9. Nothing wrong with a little assistance. I enlist hubby as much as I can. I get stuck with the sanding most of the time.

Yes you should flock those many pinecones of yours! except they get soo sticky!

  10. What a cute and funny story, I hope your laughing now. I'm sure you weren't at the time your paint job wasn't working. Your staff is the same as mine, the both of us. I get rescued a lot! I love the final outcome of your lid given it was a long road there. I always try to remember my lessons, but I always forget and get the "don't your remember last time you did this". Ha, gotta laugh!
    Hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful.

  14. Ah, that's not so bad. Really. You could have had the paint all over you and still be scrubbing it off! See, not so bad after all. And besides, the heavily distressed looks pretty darn good - you planned this didn't mew? You know so that it could be a project you did together??! Hey, it worked!

I hope mew both have a nice Turkey Day!!!

    Purrs!

  16. I think it looks beautiful, Olive! I have done this myself, I have tons of old jars and find miss matched lids at thrift shops or yard sales and paint them. I love the Vintage look of it, and you did an amazing job.
