I acquire percale sheets, from the 1960's, off and on at estate sales.
I recently picked up a set but the fitted sheet was threadbare.
The seller who knows me, as I attend most of his sales, sold me the set for one dollar.
We always go back and forth, on price, but all in good fun.
The two pillow cases and top sheet are in usable shape.
I will use the fitted sheet as a drop cloth.
Percale sheets that have been washed many, many times are soft, and cool like refrigerated butter.
I would rather have them than 600 thread count that cost me a right kidney.
A close up of the pattern with the rose darkened.
I also purchased two matelasse spreads, one white and one cream colored.
All linens I purchase are soaked in hot water and OxiClean for several hours.
I am smitten by the look of matelasse spreads.
On the wallpaper front, in our master bedroom, Joe has been peeling off long pieces of it.
He knows peeling wallpaper chips away at my soul.
One day we shall move out of this dark cave of an office
and it may be sooner than I had imagined.

Love the sheets so pretty, love that you got them for a dollar! A beautiful setting, Laura
ReplyDeleteYes, those old percale sheets are so soft. I have an old pillowcase and the way you described the feeling is perfect. So much softer than the new sheets. Love your new linens.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that **Clovis** has probably discovered their softness by now...
ReplyDeletePretty Rose Flower Pattern...

Olive,
ReplyDeleteThose percale sheets were the best. The spread is gorgeous too. Thanks for stopping by.

I hope you are taking tons of photos of the wallpaper process in the bedroom so you can blog about it! I heard that wallpaper is making a comeback. I think it's one of those things that skips a generation. I can remember putting it up and taking it down and that's enough to spoil me on the whole thought of it now.
ReplyDeleteI have a set of percale stripped pink sheets on my bed right now that I purchased from an estate sale. They are the best! Love, love your photos. You just get better and better!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely pattern on the pillow cases. Gorgeous coverlets too. Can't wait to see the office when you are all done. Hugs, Marty

Old worn in sheets are the best...
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks to the mothers who bought all those 600 count linens in the sixties so we could still have them today.
ReplyDeleteOlive, Once I went to Tuesday Mornings, they had a sets of sheets that were $300. marked down from $1500... I thought they must have been made for a king, cause I sure could never afford that. I was happy with my 60 dollars set. I actually washed those sheets to death. I would rather have a dollar set of percale.:):) Smiles, Susie(She Junks)
ReplyDelete$300 sheets...I would not be able to sleep on them!
DeleteOh your bed looks so comfy...old sheets are the very best...I agree!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful dream bed you have now. It must feel like sleeping on a cloud.

Very pretty! Nothing better than nice cool sheets in the summer and love the bedspread:@)
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty Olive!... I love soft, gently worn sheets... I don't even know what all the thread counts mean... I just go for the softest ones... and no way would I spend $300 either on sheets like one of your ladies said she saw on sale!... xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteOh do I agree about the percale sheets! They are so cool feeling. I have those zillion thread count that wrinkle and are soft but the percale fit tight and are so soft and cool, aaahhhhh.
