Concrete Love

Immediately upon entering the long curving drive of an older ranch house I noticed these concrete flower/fruit arrangements flanking the stairs.

My first thought was are they already sold?
It was an estate sale and it was late, late, late in the morning.
I went inside and asked the price for the pair. It was a little high but I went back outside and noticed one of them was cracked badly and the seller said I could have both for twenty five dollars.

Sold.

A lady came right after me and wanted them!

The chippy shabby patina is, perhaps, ten out of ten for me. The soft colors are perfect. The colors have not been edited. I think they would look great on a massive buffet {provided I had one}.

They weigh at least fifty pounds each.

At the rear of the parking pad is where they are now because I was not asking Joe to move one more thing. Can we say non-steriodal anti-inflammatory agents and a massage?

We also bought, what we hope is, a vintage concrete birdbath.

Without hesitation they are my favorite finds of the spring so far.

I am partying here:

  1. Olive,
What terrific finds! Sooo cool. The concrete arrangements are something you see at other people's homes, but never your own.
    Congratulations!

  7. Tom-I am thrilled you find them wonderful. Thanks for visiting.

Karen-I think they might go for hundreds of dollars here too in an antiques shop. There were several very good estate sales going that day and that helped dilute the pool of customers.

  9. Olive they're lovely - lifting them looks like a two man or one man/one woman job though - take care! I have a new blog site address - someothermountain.blogspot.com would love you to visit if you have time

  10. Oh...these are exactly like the three I have on the front of my house. I have them setting a top the brick pedestals that are part of the porch design. I special ordered them at a garden center. They cost me $80 each. Thank goodness I didn't have to pay shipping...they just came with their regular order. It took everything Mom and I had to lift them and get them up on their pedestals. I have a friend that threatens to come over and paint the flowers and fruit and I tell her I'll kill her if she does. She paints everything wild colors at her house. But these are very nice with the subtle paint colors. What a great find and at a great price.

  14. P.S. - I have a feeling that the originals were carved in Vicenza, just outside Venice on the mainland of Italy, then cast as reproductions. Someone seems to have painted them at a later date, and the fading and lovely colours that they used really make them better than the originals I think. Very nice, Olive.

  15. Tom-an Italian origin of sorts is never bad. I knew the faded colors were very special. If only you could join us for estate sales.

  29. I believe those may be your all time best find. I want to come to estate sales in the South if you find that kind of stuff down there. I found a concrete goose with clothes on it at the last estate sale I went to (I left it there) - not quite as classy as your find.
