Project Genesis: Small Measures

Project Genesis is now at Old Grey Mare.

My small contribution, small measure is contained in a small cloth napkin.

I have issues with paper plates, cups and napkins.

I do not like to eat on a flimsy paper plate.

I am a freak…I like to wash dishes!

Plus the waste involved in using paper products is noteworthy.

I do not use paper plates or cups.

I will occasionally use paper towels to clean with but that is the only use I have for them.

We use cloth napkins at meal time.

All the time.

I find them at thrift stores and yard sales.

I do laundry often enough and cloth napkins do not add much to the total amount.

Joe carries a cloth handkerchief in his pocket at all times.

It comes in handy.

  1. We do too! And everyone thinks we're nuts! AS for the claims I have heard we are wasting water and using more phosphates you and I know we can toss those small napkins in with a load with no extra effects on anything.

Thank you so much for joining in!

  4. I'm with you. Paper plates, etc. just don't do it for me. Since you're doing laundry anyway, and laundry unavoidable, cloth napkins are a great solution.

  7. Bravo Olive...us too...what I love about cloth napkins is the softer they become with use and laundering, and yes, if you are conscientious about not washing them in half-loads, they don't take up extra water.

I am sooooo particular about what I drink from that it has to be white bone china...just makes the tea or coffee taste better.

  8. It's hard to believe that some folks would rather use paper plates and cups rather than wash. What's even worse is styrofoam. Awful! I enjoy washing dishes. And a pretty cloth napkin always feels special. Wishing you a beautiful day. :) Tammy

  10. My sister ALWAYS uses cloth napkins, so I pick them up at thrift stores for her. I use way too many disposable things. I need to be more conscious about what I am throwing in the land fills.

  12. I just love the
    idea of cloth
    napkins at all
    meals, but have
    yet to execute
    the plan!! It's
    just a matter of
    intent and as
    they say at Nike,
    JUST DO IT! I'll
    try, I promise : )!

  13. We do this, too~ I am guilty of sometimes using paper, but I will be more conscious. It is usually when I am not at home. Great reminder!

  14. I've gone back and forth on the napkin issue and have both in my house. Do you change cloth napkins every meal, or do family members have a special napkin holder for one that they hardly used?
    Just curious.

  15. Kathy, there are only two of us usually and sometimes I change them out right away and sometimes I hold them over if clean enough.
