grey days and pumpkins

This chubby grey pumpkin has been on the deck for eleven months.
 It imploded today.
A perfect metaphor for my gallbladder which was whisked out yesterday.
The surgery time was changed three times.
I was moved to first case at 7:30 AM.

  My surgeons other patients cancelled.
We were home by 11 AM.
I was intubated for less than one hour but my throat is awfully sore and I cannot talk very well.
 Joe is happy about that.
Fewer orders.
I am taking a big time narcotic pain pill and feeling more than drunk.
Day two post op is always rough.
My brain is grey and fuzzy.
Making the day grey and fuzzy.
I watered the flower garden in my pajamas early this morning and spoke with one of my neighbors.
Thankfully by now they are used to my vagaries.

Joe is a lovely helper in every way.
He is at an estate sale now and is texting me about the goods.
He has difficulty with vintage linens when I am not with him.
He will have no difficulty with rusty tools however.

Fancy, our dear friend, provided us with supper last night.

Thanks again for all your thoughts, prayers, and emails.
Sending a big drunken hug to all of you
.
May your day be filled with sunshine and no hints of grey

  1. Dear Olive - that is a perfect metaphor - the soggy old grey pumpkin. Good riddance to your old gall bladder, wishing you lots of bright sunny days ahead.
I know from Hold Everything Lightly that you are a real trooper and will be back to your old self in no time.
Hope that Joe comes back today with lots of things to make you smile.

  7. Imploded pumpkin - hilarious. Surgery - ugh. Meds - yay! Watering your flowers the next day after surgery? Wow! I'm betting you'll be at the sales next weekend. Take advantage of those drugs while you can. And get some sleep.

  18. I was surprised to see a post from you today. I didn't know you could come home that soon! Don't do too much too fast, those pain pills will fool you into thinking you are able to do more than you really can. I think it's time for Joe to spring for a new pumpkin!

  26. Sorry to hear you had to have surgery! Who needs a gall bladder anyway?! Mine's been gone for years, so believe me when I say you will feel soooooo much better now!

You are so fortunate you can trust Joe with an Estate Sale! I'd never send Bill to one without me...what am I saying? He'd never go to one unless I drug him kicking! Hope Joe found you lots of nice things!

I can tell you I might have to chase you down for those boots! They are beautiful! Take good care of yourself! Best, Vicki

  30. Olive, so glad to hear it is behind you and you are in your usual, albeit, grey state. And drunken. You are right, the day after is when it hits you the worst. So glad dinner was brought to you and that your neighbors are used to seeing you in your pj's and rambling... my old ones were like that. Hug to you. Ann
