These tiny nests were found on our property at the yellow house. The first one is made out of a single natural fiber. The second one is a hummingbird nest and is made of pine needles, feathers, and spider webs. It saddened me no end to discover the hummingbird nest after a recent storm. Our hummingbirds arrived on March 30th and are busy, busy, feeding, and zipping around.
Joe recently bought me the antique petite rocking chair at an estate sale. At first we walked away from it {I regretted it too} but Joe went back later in the day and got it for a lower price. It is solid maple and beautifully made. Thank you my love.

That is a perfectly sweet rocking chair and at least the hummingbird nest was found by someone who will treasure it. Our hummingbirds were several weeks later than yours. We had begun to wonder if they were going to skip us this year. My husband puts feeders out the first of April just in case there are some traveling through and we normally get them April 6th.
ReplyDeleteThe rocking chair is so darling. It breaks my heart to find a nest that has been blown out of a tree. I check our tree in the back where the Mourning Doves have a nest everyday. We had a bad windstorm the other night and I didn't think it would survive, but it did. Thank goodness. Bird nests are so sweet. So much love and work go into them.

I just hate it when I find a nest on the ground after a storm...

ReplyDeleteLove your nest displays. I always enjoy little chairs!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat rocking chair, I love the look (and craftsmanship) of the rockers:@)
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious little rocker and a sweet hubby! Love your pretty nests, too! Spring is in the air!
ReplyDeleteI love nests and was excited when some birds were in our air duct! My hubby went to see if there was a nest in there - but there wasn't!! He had to block it off so they would not come back!

Wonderful chair! I love nests too! I gave the one "real" one I had to my granddaughter. She is 'taking care' of it really well. She loves it too.
ReplyDeleteA find . . . it is . . . when a bird nest appears. Natures artistry . . .
ReplyDeleteLove the rocker. I do rescue fallen nests for the house. The hummingbirds usually have a nest in the dogwood, but I have not seen them yet.
ReplyDeletePine needles, feathers and spider webs sounds like fairy magic words! What a sweetheart to go back and buy you that perfect, little chair.
ReplyDeleteHey Olive; Your Maple Rocking Chair is Lovely. I am so glad that Joe was able to get it for you.
ReplyDeleteIf you are interested, here is a brief Antique Review of your Chair!!
I believe that it is a Sewing Rocking Chair, as it does not have side arms, and Sewing Rocking Chairs were once very common, as the Lady of the House was always sewing.
I am basing my thoughts on the size and shape of the Chair as well as how it is constructed, and age. Sewing Rocking Chairs are smaller than a normal Rocking Chair, as they were used close to the Fireplace in Homes, also.
I hope that you enjoy your Antique Chair!!!
How cute! I love how you put the nest in the cloche, Olive. We have a nest with bird eggs now which I just added to my post too....Christne
ReplyDeleteDarling rocking chair! So glad it wasn't already sold when he went back to get it. And it is always fun to find these little nests in the spring (or winter).
ReplyDeleteYour new rocking chair is adorable. I like how the rockers attach to it. You guys find the best estate sales!
ReplyDeleteIt's such fun to find bird nests on the property. I have a few I've found and I treasure them.

Olive, I feel sad when I find nest after storms. Last week, we found an egg, not broken, but not in a nest.:( For Joe to go back for the little chair, makes him super sweet. Hope you are enjoying your Spring..ours is whacky.xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteHi Olive... I always worry so too about the fallen nests... I have rescued many a baby bird over the years... we are blessed to have a wonderful wildlife rehabilitation center close by I am a member of who advises me exactly what to do as I tend to the babies... then, when they are well enough, I take them to the refuge and they continue to care for them until they are released back into the wild... so fragile these treasures of Nature... xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteyou make the best vignettes...
ReplyDeletemade me think of that song about a bird nest on the ground...my husband sings it.. :-)
Love, Mona
Be very careful with the nests. We are a family of serious birders (yes, we ID species by sight and song, and participate in competitions). Anyhooo... we find a lot of nests along the way as you can imagine. Then we found out that nests can have mites that can cause long-term problems if they get under your skin.
ReplyDeleteI do not know if there is any way to kill them by freezing or fumigating. Just be very careful.
So cute!!
ReplyDeleteI always get tickled when I find a nest with someone's Easter basket grass wound in :)
Nature is the most amazing, amazing thing to get to watch.
Love the chair!!
Sweet birds' nests. Good for Joe - great hubs you got there...
