Our yellow house last spring.
My dear friend Fancy rented her enormous house to golfers who are here for the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. Twenty two people are staying in her home over seven days. They switched over today so eight beds needed sheets changed and the kitchen and bathrooms cleaned. I arrived a little bit late and brought lunch. The golfers arrived three hours early. It was a panic at the disco moment. We were scrambling to clean that house. The golfers, who are Canadian, were gracious and seemed happy with our warm temperature, sunshine, blooming trees and flowers. I have lived near this world famous golf event nearly all my life and have had no contact with it until today. What I have learned from Fancy's experience is that Joe and I will not be renting the yellow house any time soon for the tournament. It takes a huge amount of work to get a house ready for rental and I can barely keep the lawn mowed.
Have you ever rented your home for an event?
How did it work out for you?
Please read my Poise review and sweepstakes here if you have not.

I could never clean my house enough to rent it - it is way toooo lived in :)
ReplyDeleteI could never do that... I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing complete strangers were staying in it all week!
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE this shot of your home Olive! Beautiful!!
No, no, never! I have also lived here all my life and have never even entertained the idea of a strange someone sleeping in my bed. I do love all the excitement that surrounds the golf event and I love to watch it. Your house is beautiful in the spring.
ReplyDeleteyikes!
ReplyDeleteYour house looks so beautiful.....love the shade of yellow :o) We have been asked a few times to rent our house out but the thought of other people rummaging thru all our belongings kind of freaks me out!!! LOL

What a lovely yellow house! I would keep it all to myself.
ReplyDeleteI could never do that with my house here in the city, it's too small and crowded with our possessions. But we did have a house full at the lakehouse when our neighbor's daughter got married and needed a place for the groomsmen to stay. Not so bad since that house is always ready for guests we have, and the neighbor did all the cleaning, etc. And another time, another neighbor had a wedding shower at our house there because it's so big. I didn't get any compensation for this...I was just glad to have it cleaned for me! ;-D
ReplyDeleteBTW, the yellow house looks gorgeous in all it's spring glory!
XO,
Jane
No I couldn't do it. It would be so much work and strange, I think, to have strangers in my home. My Aunt rented out her house and a movie was made in it. I don't even remember which one now...it was one of those movies made with Saturday Night Live people.
ReplyDeletePerhaps 10 years ago I would have rented out our home, but I no longer have the energy it would take for the preparation. Plus, if they broke anything I would be heartsick.
ReplyDeleteWe have a home with a Blue Ridge view in NC and have been asked several times to rent it out... I am like the other readers... I wouldn't like the thought of people that I don't know in my things. I have a friend who rented her home out and the renters opened a bottle of red wine, put the cork back in and put it back on the wine rack... when they arrived back home, they found the bottle had leaked, being on its side and stained their hardwood floors.
ReplyDeleteI can not even imagine doing that. Although I feel like a run a B&B sometimes at 1515 with all the people coming and going.
ReplyDeleteYour yellow house is beautiful!
We will be watching the Masters this weekend from the comfort of our home,
I don't live anywhere near this event and there is nothing that big going on in our little town. Just wanted to say, Olive, that your yellow home is absolutely gorgeous. Deb
ReplyDeleteOh my, might be an honor to be asked . . . but i couldn't pull it off. Talk about stress . . .
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how hard I am laughing. First we would need a dumpster to remove my bil's 25 year hoard of junk that, at least is relegated to the basement. I passed a cabinet tonight on my way to the garage with a dead lamp neck hanging over the edge and about fifteen years of dust and cobwebs wafting. I thought to myself, if he weren't so sensative about not being appreciated for his junk piles, I'd write a post about this.
ReplyDeletesounds like fun. i wonder how they would treat your home? i would assume that you would put some where that if they break something you get paid for it? right?
ReplyDeleteneat times. have fun!! ( :
I've never rented my house, but had a co-worker who did. It was a good experience for them, but not my cup of tea. Your house is gorgeous. Beautiful yard!
ReplyDeleteYour yellow house is charming, Olive!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
My husband has stayed in some rented houses there, but I never thought about the owners having to change the sheets and clean bathrooms. Wouldn't be worth it to me!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I knew you lived there!
ReplyDeleteI've been to the practice round ..it was 1992 I think.
Hubby is a golfer.
GASP!!! Is THIS your house? It is absolutely beautiful!!!! It's late, so I admit that I haven't read the ENTIRE post.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I've joked that during Super Bowl Week (when it's in New Orleans) I could make a pretty penny renting out our house. We could crash at untold friends' homes and take the to a lovely dinner for repayment! But...I'd have to vet (is that a word) all the applicants and hope they didn't trash the place. I think New Orleans has the game in like 2018 or 2019...maybe rethink that yet!
That house of yours is STUNNING!
Your house is gorgeous! I wouldn't rent it out either if i were you.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a house big enough nor anywhere near a place that anyone would want to rent it.
I believe this is the firt time I've seen your "yellow house" as you refer to it. It's gorgeous! I don't blame you for not wanting to rent out your house to strangers. Somebody would have to pay me a lot of money to make it worth it to me! I bet the traffic in your area has really picked up! I love this time of year. The Master's is always the kick-start to Spring to me (that and popping allergy pills daily).
ReplyDeleteOlive, I love your yellow house! I really, really think you should give it a name. Yellow house just doesn't do it justice. I wouldn't dream of renting my house out and having people poke through all my stuff!
ReplyDeleteWe are renting our house in Florida for people to reside in and I can tell you I do not really enjoy the experience. Would rather be done with it. I love to rent houses when we travel and always marvel at how people handle it all so wonderfully. Your yellow house is lovely. Ann
ReplyDeleteHey Olive; Your Home is absolutely Stunning!!! I love the yellow color and your grass is so green and the shrubs are so Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI would be hesitant to rent out my home or lake home unless I was going to make a hefty sum!!! Also, I would have the renters sign papers stating that if anything was broken or missing that they would be responsible for it. It sounds mean, but I have Antiques, and some special pieces which I could not replace easily or ever!!!
If I were going to rent out a house, I think that I would have one just for that purpose, and the items in it would not have value to me, either!!!
First of all, I barely have enough room for my family in my little house. LOL Hmmm, even if I had a big house, I'm pretty sure getting it ready for an event like that would drive me nuts. I wouldn't mind being a guest at your house though. I promise I wouldn't bring 22 people with me. LOL
ReplyDeleteOlive, your yellow house is just beautiful! When we lived near Charleston, we thought about renting out our house during the Spoleto festival but we never did. Leo will be watching the Masters all weekend. He had the once in a lifetime pleasure of playing the course years ago so he will be glued to the TV!
ReplyDeleteYour house is so pretty, Olive. Great curb appeal. It looks similar to our house which is a cape cod also and we're currently making some changes to it. I live near Columbus OH where we have the Memorial Golf tournament every year but I don't think I would rent out my house either!
ReplyDeleteLovely yellow house, I understand that you can make a pile of money renting out your property.
ReplyDeleteYour yellow house is such a charming place...love it! Seriously...my house is way too tiny to think of renting it...perfect for us though. My yard is big and I have hosted many a party here...my son's wedding reception too...but that was a ton of work!Have a great day!!
ReplyDeleteyour yellow house is just beautiful......and I would NEVER EVER EVEN FOR A DAY rent out my house..LOL we had a wedding in our backyard a few years ago and I loved it but it was so so much work.....had another wedding rehearsal dinner outside and we rented 2 port a potty's..much better than people in the house when it is an outside event...well, maybe I WOULD rent my yard...LOL
ReplyDeleteLove, Mona
I'm not sure I could...I like sleeping in my own bed! :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindyu
We've never done it, but have several friends who have rented their homes out for SXSW, the Formula One race, etc. They all take off on a family vacation and smile all the way to the bank. It's amazing how much money they make in a weeks time.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I don't know if I could handle having to clean my house to that level, but it would be sort of fun to run a bed and breakfast sort of thing for a few days.
ReplyDeleteI rented my house one time to a lady who was working at my company. I had married and moved to my husbands house. I had not moved a thing personal.
ReplyDeleteIt worked out OK she was very gracious on paying a large amount for my houses use , of course the company paid it
would not do it again since I am down to one house now
