I ran across several boxes of Shiny Brite vintage Christmas ornaments this summer.
It was either at an estate sale or a garage sale.
I cannot remember.
I do remember the price was less than one dollar for a box.
Much like the original price.
The boxes contain several different sizes and colors.
My favorite is the white that almost looks like mercury glass because of it's age.
The white ones and small pinks ended up on the dining table.
I cannot bear having them on the tree with a 75 pound puppy in the house.
Truthfully though Shelly has not paid one lick of attention to the tree.
Today, despite having a cold, I ventured out to a few places.
I had not left the house in three days and was getting a bit stir crazy.
One of the stops was a thrift store where I dug through an enormous tub of ornaments.
I found four vintage ornaments.
It was worth the effort.

I regretfully sold two vintage boxes of shiny brights from my Grandma. I was young and foolish.
ReplyDeleteI would likely have done the same Carlene when I was younger. There are still a lot out there at low prices.
DeleteI love Shiny Brites! I just bought a box of 12 for $6, which I thought was a good price. But you got a real bargain!! They look great in the bowl on your table.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice find. I like the blue "Silent Night" one.
ReplyDeleteLucky you Olive finding those beautiful Shiny Brite ornaments at a garage sale. I love the last box too with the angel and Silent Night. Good you got a bit stir crazy, just look what you came home with!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Emily

I love shiny brites and have lots of them but I want more! Those were great finds worth venturing out when sick. You know...when I was a kid I hated shiny brites...they were too ordinary and we didn't have them on our tree but as an adult I love them.
ReplyDeleteI too love Shiny Brites Olive, especially the mica ones like you found... I am almost ashamed at how many vintage ornaments I have collected over my lifetime, but I would never part with a single one of them!... yours look so pretty in your crystal... xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeletei would love to have some of those old ornaments. so cute. they don't make them like that any more. fun to dress up your home for the holidays. fun, fun, fun!!! ( :
ReplyDeleteLove your Shiny Brites, the Silent Night one would be my fav:@)
ReplyDeleteI always go through the books at the thrift store. They have more than our library! There you go, putting my childhood in a server on the table. They look nice!
ReplyDeleteOlive,
ReplyDeleteyour Shiney Brites are fabulous! I've been lucky enough to find quite a few boxes of them over the years, one good haul at a yard sale where the lady said she was getting rid of all her husband's x-wife's stuff!
Lucky me! They are my favorite to decorate with.
Rebecca
Aww they take me back to my mom's holidays in our old house.
ReplyDeleteI love those silverish ones the best too! I found some last week at Salvation Army.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to start looking for those. When it isn't the season, I just don't think that way...do you know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteYour Shiny Brite ornaments look beautiful in the bowl.
What fantastic finds! They look beautiful in your compote dish.
ReplyDeleteSorry you're not feeling well, but glad you're better.
Judy

Love those Shiny Brites! You found a good deal. I have a few old ornaments from when I was a kid. I just put them out in a glass dish today.
ReplyDeleteLucky you. I love them. I remember these on my grandmother's tree.
ReplyDeleteOh, get out of town, clown! I have that exact blue "Silent Night" ornament!! It was my husband's Grandmother's, and I was hoping it was worth millions!
ReplyDeleteBut I still love it!
Another great little score. I wish I'd been smart enough to keep all those ornaments ~ ah well.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about the fact that the white ones DO look sort of like mercury glass, no wonder they have been appealing to me lately! I love the simple treatment of an elegant bowl full of ornaments, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJenna
You hit the jackpot with those boxes of ornaments! I was so delighted to get some of my parents when my Dad passed away, vintage and full of memories.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon. I was hibernating after Thanksgiving and our weekend away, but I did get to the gym last night and it felt so good.
Happy Wednesday!
XO,
Jane
The name "Shiny Brite" pretty much says it all...or at least all that needs to be said.
ReplyDeleteI agree...so worth the trip.
Deb

ReplyDeleteMissed you my friend. Shiny brites are my favorite! Love the white ones too, of course. They look sparkly in the glass compote. Love it too!
ReplyDeleteOh I love shiny brite ornaments! What a steal Olive! I have a big baby like yours too so I have to be careful about my tree. I must say the ornaments look beautiful just as you've shown them in a bowl. I'm glad you were finally able to get out. *winks* Vanna
ReplyDeleteA BOX of shiny brites for less than a dollar?!?! Serious score there!!!! And like you LOVE the white that have aged to a mercury glass luster. Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteHoping that Shelley and Clovis continue to be un-interested in the tree. Of course if you were to put the vintage ornaments on there, you KNOW there would be interest! At least that's how it seems to work here ;)
Hugs and purrs,
"Her" and Romeo

Olive~ I can't resist "rescuing" vintage ornaments when I find them! Your bowl is beautiful with your glowing tree in the background! I hope you are recovering from your cold. Mine was a doozy but I'm convinced zinc helped shorten it.
ReplyDeleteScore! Those are super pretty. I love vintage ornaments.
ReplyDeleteIt's always worth the effort to dig for vintage ornaments!
