Robins

We had visitors this past weekend.
A flock of Robin Red Breasts.
They are large birds.
It is hard to miss them especially
when they arrive in a massive flock.

They were thirsty and emptied the birdbath of water.
We turned a sprinkler on for them.
They also flew back and forth from our dogwood trees eating the berries.

Every time I stepped outside to snap images of them they flew into the trees.
These images are my tenth try.
I nearly gave up.
They have flown further south now seeking warmth.

joy and peace

  6. Love your pictures and that you keep our featherd friends watered. A sign of Fall when we see them in flocks but I look forward to Spring when they come to my yard to claim nesting rights.

Hope you have a wonderful day.

  8. When I was little, I remember hiding quietly, watching a huge flock of Robins in the yard, then running and screaming to watch them all fly away.

Didn't take much to entertain me.

    Great photos!

  9. You got them in the end. Lovely pictures. Our robins look smaller with little brown coats - not seen many about yet.

  10. Aren't Robins just the most beautiful, proud birds. We have them pretty much year round. I love in the Spring tho because they are everywhere pulling up worms out of the ground. Just love them.

  13. Did you skip over winter down in your parts and head right into spring?! That's the only time I see robins here. Great shots...they were thirsty!

  14. We had a huge flock of robins here at my home in Missouri over the weekend, too. They were thick in our persimmon trees, eating persimmons and doing their robin calls. Most of them, probably 60 or more, were in the trees. And several more were darting around pulling worms out of the ground. The ground was damp that day. I tried once to get pictures of them in the persimmon tree, as their bellies were the same color as the persimmons. It was a colorful sight. But when I came out with the camera, they all lifted off. I felt bad since they had been enjoying themselves so much. Kind of like me at the Thanksgiving table, until someone pulls out a camera. There were also a lot of little snowbirds in the group. We hadn't seen robins since they got their nestlings raised. It was too hot and dry around here this summer. I was happy to see them again. Apparently, the flock has flown on to wherever they go in winter, as I have not seen a single one yesterday or today.

  15. How fascinating! The robin's song always takes me back to a childhood summer evening at my grandparents' when the sound 'registered' with me for the first time.
I notice male robins fight a lot, and we now have robins that actually overwinter here.

  17. So interesting to see your robins Olive, they are completely different from ours. Ours are solitary and also territorial. Most gardens have a Robin all year round, but they do not like other Robins coming into their garden once they take possession of it. When you are working in the garden they will stand a few feet away watching in case you dig up some worms, They can become quite tame and even eat bread from your hand.

  21. I always love to see the Robins. They do seem to always come in a group. We would get them in Jan and Feb in FL. Wonder if they will have any here? I see all kinds of birds that I don't know what they are, bought a book to be educated... Ann

  22. How interesting! We always have robins, but only a few at a time. I don't think I've ever seen a flock of them. Maybe it's because I don't have anything out for them? That must have been a beautiful sight.

  25. Awwww how sweet! Those little buggers have a friend in you. It's been so nice to see the birds this year. Last year there seemed to be only crows at our place.
I've got my fingers crossed for ya finding a bunch of fabulous cherubs for dirt cheap tomorrow Olive! *winks*....Keep me posted... Lol! Vanna

  26. Loved seeing your robins. We have a couple that hang out here every summer and fall...now that the evenings and mornings are so much cooler, I think they are meeting up with yours for the flight South.
