Morning Coffee

Good morning friends.
Can you sit with me and have coffee and coffee bars?
I am partial to coffee.
And chocolate.
Do you see my favorite spoon?
It has a fairy on it.

Yesterday I had a migraine headache.
Caffeine is often used to treat headaches.
In the 80's I administered intravenous caffeine to patients
 with spinal tap headaches.
A headache from a spinal tap is dreadful.
A caffeine drip brought these patients relief.
That illustrates the power of caffeine.
I did not drink coffee then and did not get
the connection but boy now I "get" it.

What are you doing this fine Saturday?
Do tell.

joy and peace
Olive

  1. Hi Olive... first thing every morning I make myself my cup of coffee and sit and relax... LOVE your little fairy spoon, so sweet!... I have fibromyalgia and it may not work for everyone, but coffee eases my daily pains and makes my day go better... also, I am not a pill person... I too drink a cup when I have a headache and it always helps... today, my sister and I are off to a local antiques store in search of hidden treasures!... happy weekend to you!... xoxo Julie Marie

  2. I did not know that about caffeine drips to treat spinal tap headaches. I enjoy coffee most mornings, made from freshly ground beans. Cute fairy spoon of yours. I am heading to the health club to exercise this morning.

  3. I've never heard of a caffeine drip. Glad it helps with spinal tap headaches. The first thing I do in the morning is to make a pot of coffee. I don't usually get headaches but I have one this morning. So far the caffeine hasn't helped. Guess I'll have another cup.
    Have a great weekend

  4. Hope your headache is gone.

Cant make a move without coffee in the AM, I do a half caff-decaff. Too much caffeine and I cant hold the camera.

    HOPE you are staying warm.

  5. I don't get migraines and I am so sorry for those that do. I have heard horror stories about them. I rarely get headaches but backaches knock me on my butt. I drink strong coffee when I have asthma problems. It helps a lot. Have you heard of that?

I have a very slow day ahead of me and I already have the house in order so I can do whatever I want! Love those days. And tonight we are going out for a nice dinner which we haven't done in a long time. Life is good.

Now, get over that headache, sweetie!

    XO,
    Jane

  7. I prefer my caffeine via Coke, although a drip might be more effective some mornings. I went to a craft show this morning and am watching football this afternoon. In between I may just do NOTHING.

  8. Olive, I had my coffee early..I have cut back at times...but go right back to 2-3 cups a day. I went to town and picked up my new glasses. It sleeted while I was in town. Rats. I don't like winter any more. Too old to play in it and hate being cooped up.:):) I like that fancy spoon. Smiles, Susie

  10. Hi, Olive... your photography is great! And I always love a shot taken of a coffee mug. I, for one, never liked the taste of coffee. Even when it was sophisticated to drink it in college (where most of us began the habit), I just couldn't do it. Coffee ice cream.. coffee candy.. nope! Couldn't do it. And you would think loading it up with sugar would help! Great info about it, though. My jump start in the morning is a venti iced green tea, unsweetened, no water from Starbucks. Chat soon....... !

  12. Glad you're feeling better. My granddaughter has violent migraine headaches and once in the ER, they gave her a drip of caffeine. I was amazed. Now, when she starts to have one, we pump the caffeine to her. Interesting, isn't it?

  13. Hi, Olive...first off..the coffee and bars and spoon all look sooo pretty. :) Beautiful photos.

Second, Mr. Sweet has cluster headaches and caffeine is the only thing that triggers them. Isn't that something. He can go for years without the headaches and then, "forgets" how bad they can be...slips into having a Dr. Pepper here and a glass of tea there...then, after a few weeks, he is walking the floor with headaches that are so bad, he can't even think while having them. Once the caffeine is out of his system, no more headaches.

Thirdly...how did you get rid of Google+ ??? I want to lose it, too. :)

  14. My brother had a spinal tap recently complete with all the headaches which were awful. One night shortly after he had a spinal tap `leak`` and thought he was dying on the way to Manhatten in a cab from New Jersey to see his neurologist...just an awful time...

I love my coffee...I can;t wait to leap out of bed just to go make a cup.

  16. That cup of coffee looks delish and I did know about it helping headaches. It can also help with asthma - I've tested it!

Went to two estate sales today - one in the Hollywood Hills that was a wonderful, winding drive, totally worth it. Wish I'd brought more money as they had priced things to sell and there were such lovely things. I will blog about them next week! Hope your headache went away. Ann

  20. Isn't it wonderful to have a favorite coffee spoon or mug? I can't do without my two cups in the morning either:-) I once had a spinal tap headache and it was the worse experience of my life. They told me to drink loads of coffee until they were able to do a patch. Yep, coffee is good, real good:-)
