A few posts ago I mentioned an estate sale that Joe and I attended that had great prices. It was being held by a young affluent couple selling all they owned from their three story historic home, except their summer clothes, to become missionaries to Honduras. We bought this Capel handmade braided rug from their boy's room for thirty dollars.
I looked at the Capel site online and these rugs are expensive {this one would be close to $1000.00}. It takes our living room a little bit more traditional and perhaps a tad country but we do not mind. It is chenille, well made, and will last a long time. It is far better than the indoor outdoor rug that was here before. It is also quite warm underfoot.
It works with our white, blue, and burlap pieces of furniture.
I hope you are having a terrific Sunday. I have not slept at all because I worked in the garden yesterday yanking lantana branches and I hurt all over. Clearly the monster lantana won that round. I keep telling myself we keep it for the butterflies and the hummingbirds and they will be arriving soon.

ReplyDeleteSuch luck for you! looks soft under foot..I like it!
ReplyDeleteWow it's perfect! You got such a good deal. Are you like me? I'd be telling everyone that walks in the door what a steal it was. :)
ReplyDeleteThe colors are perfect Olive! Great find!!
ReplyDeleteI love it when something new (and inexpensive) works makes other things work better too. It looks so comfy.
ReplyDeleteGreat new rug and a fantastic price. You will get years of wear out of that and it will go with everything. Perfect purchase!
ReplyDeleteHi Olive... missing you and wanted to stop in and say hi... this "no blogging" thing is harder for me than I thought it would be... your new rug is just beautiful, and I love traditional "Country"... looks great!... our weather is finally warming up here but just too boggy still to be in my gardens... wishing you a beautiful Sunday, xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteYou are the Queen of thrift Olive, the rug is simply lovely and what a bargain.
ReplyDeleteOh, I like it! Would love to find a deal like that on an area rug for our new home. Rugs can be so darned pricey!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find...looks lovely and cozy in the room!
ReplyDeleteI love braided rugs. A tad country but casual cottage too.
ReplyDeleteI love braided rugs. I've got a huge red wool braided rug in our basement that never shows signs of wear. Your rug adds a cozy feel to your living room. Lucky you to find that gorgeous rug for only $30!!! I'm looking for a braided rug in neutral tones for our dining room, and can't believe how expensive they are now.
ReplyDeleteYou've done it again. Godspeed to your missionaries.
ReplyDeletei love that foot stool. is this the same home with the upgraded kitchen? so neat. i love it. you have good taste. enjoy your sunday. you & your husband have such fun. i never find such great stuff when i got junk shopping. or antique shopping - the prices are nuts!! ha. ha!! ( :
ReplyDeleteThat gorgeous carpet has found the perfect new home! It's so interesting to hear of a couple leaving all their affluence behind and heading out to be missionaries. What a grand adventure!
ReplyDeletePerfect complement to the room! Hope you feel better soon after battling the branches!
ReplyDeleteAnother terrific find! I think the striped pattern of the braided rug gives it more of an updated, rather than country, look. And it does coordinate nicely with the other rug in your room.

What a great find, Olive. It looks so nice with the other blues in your room.
ReplyDeleteI am jealous of your lantana. It's an annual here and I can't even seem to grow it in pots. I hope you have recovered from cutting yours.
I like this rug and what a terrific deal you got on it. It looks great in your room and does go well with the dining room rug.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm looking forward to spring, I'm not looking forward to the clean up part. And we really neglected to do that last fall so we have our work cut out for us. I hope you feel better soon.
XO,
Jane
Oh, I love a chenille rug. Very soft on the footsies. You got the deal of the century on that. I actually went to an estate sale and Friday and I'll post photos if I can get myself motivated tonight.
ReplyDeleteThe butterflies and hummers will surely love it, but it must be quite a beast to put up such a fight, Olive! What a bargain that rug was! Is! I love it and think it goes well with all you have. Have a great week ahead. Ann
ReplyDeleteGREAT find, I love it! Such a comfy room Olive, warm and cozy and your ottomans...nice! Love your white coffee table too...
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
I love your new rug! I'm very familiar with Capel and had one in my son's nursery when he was a baby. They make wonderful rugs. I know how soft they are and well made. You will enjoy that one for years to come. It looks like a good match in your room too. The way you describe hurting all over with doing yard work is what happened to me years ago with raking. Guess what? I never rake anymore. Not gonna happen! LOL. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteWhat a steal - and it has great colors that you can pick out if you want...
ReplyDeleteyour new rug is very pretty...I know it feels good to your tootsies.....and that lantana...I wrangled about half of the branches on my huge bush and left the rest for another day...it's like a fight to the finish... mine is winning. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove,
Mona
It looks beautiful! I love your collected room and treasures.

Wow. Yeah, young people sometimes don't think twice about buying quality things and then selling them cheap. Glad you were on the fun end! I love it :)
ReplyDeleteAnd happy to hear about the young missionaries doing what we are supposed to! That's cool...hope they do well.
And where did you get your union jack pouf?
ReplyDeleteThe rug looks great in your room. I hope your muscles feel better after your battle with Lantana!
ReplyDeleteThat is one gorgeous rug! And what a great price you got it for. Love the texture and colors.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful rug and a fun find! We have lantana too and we're always trying to keep it from taking over! Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and quality rug -and a steal at that price too.
ReplyDeleteYour new rug looks fantastic in your living room!
ReplyDeleteI bet it is soft. I got a rug off freecycle once it was wool and it was a $700-$800 ...for free! I'd never have bought that rug. But I just couldn't pass up free wool rug. Got it home and it had a chemical smell to it...burned my eyes.
I finally got that to go away...I laid newspaper on it for about 3 days and sprinkled it with baking soda everytime I vacuumed for about a month.
Gone! no more chemical smell (glue off gasses, I think)

What a bargain you got on your rug, love the soft colors! There used to be a Capel outlet here, even outlet prices were steep.
