~~One Angel more~~

The cemetery near our old house, almost at dusk.

I am fascinated by turn of the century graves and their engravings.
Joe shares my enthusiasm.

At the bottom of the one day old infants stone it says " One Angel more."
How they loved him to inscribe the stone this way.
It is so sweet and sad to me.

Many child graves are in this cemetery and it is likely due to childhood diseases that are now eradicated by immunizations.

My former nursing staff, at the state prison, was appalled that we frequently visited cemeteries and took photos and that I once went to a garage sale at a funeral home (I bought the prettiest lamp ever). One of the prison doctors (he was from Africa, where voodoo was practiced) told me to stay out of cemeteries.  I have no fear of the dead. As a RN in a busy teaching hospital I was required to prepare and take dead bodies to the hospital morgue. If your patient died on your shift you knew you were going to the morgue. When you care for patients for weeks and weeks it is quite natural to give them this final respect. We never saw the undertakers. At smaller hospitals the undertakers arrive and the nurses never see a hospital morgue but not where I worked for nearly half of my life.

Cheerful post today yes?
I do find peace in cemeteries, go take a walk in one and snap some pics.
You might concur.

Dresser Bits At Our Old House

The old house dresser this morning with the sun beaming on it.

Those perfumes are rendered useless because they are old.
I like the look of them, wearing them not so much.

The lamb is my baby toy.
That I still have it intact is somewhat amazing to me.

The weekend was far too short. CC and I had a beautiful time together. We nearly froze at the outlets as the windchill was in the teens and we spent very little money and mostly enjoyed each other. I found an interesting thrift store near the hotel. More on that later.

Here we are at one of the stores.
Image per CC and her IPod Touch.

I got so tickled at your comments about the previous trunk post.
I did not mean to leave you hanging.  I simply brought that trunk to the yellow house and Joe and I put it under the window seat. The acquisition of the trunk was the story in my view.

Barrel Shaped Trunk Saga

Let me tell you the story of the barrel shaped trunk.
When I was a young nurse and worked in a large teaching hospital and never had time to eat lunch there was a well known bakery up the street. Any time we had a mandated "workshop" to attend we nurses would stop into the bakery and grab an enticing confection.  Last October I saw an that the owner of the shop was ill and having a living estate sale. Her spouse was in the military, at one time, and they had traveled the world. I knew that she would have beautiful smalls and furniture for sale. Sadly no members of the family carried on the baking tradition and the bakery closed some years ago.
I saw the barrel shaped trunk in the dining room and instantly loved it.
It is primitive, handmade, old, and missing it's hardware.
Mind you, I usually buy smalls to sell and hardly ever buy large pieces for us. Not without Joe's okay. I knew the person conducting the sale and she had no one to help me get it to my Jeep plus it was way out side my price range. When I asked her for her best price she reduced the price in half. That was lovely of her and that is when being a repeat customer and a well known face pays off.
Now I had to get it out of the house.
Another woman who was admiring it said "If you buy it I will help you get it to your vehicle." Fabulous. This perfect stranger helped me navigate this huge house filled with people and down two sets of stairs and the yard into the street and another stranger, a young man opened the Jeep for us. He fished my keys out of my pocket. Oh my. Joe raises his eyebrows at that part by the way. I did not want to set that trunk down. It was a true team effort. I thanked them profusely. The trunk is not heavy but is old and due to it's curved lid is awkward to pick up.

There are two issues with the trunk.
It is nearly the same color as our floor and Clovis cannot jump on it. He slides right off. The resolution to number one is to move it to the master bedroom where we have carpet and it would look good at the foot of the bed. Problem is there is no master bedroom. Yet. Wallpaper removal still in progress-month fourteen I think. Yes, we are eight kinds of awful. I placed a fabric covered foot stool to the right of the trunk so Clovis can get into his window.

If you made it this far into the story, good for you and you are pretty.
I am auto posting. My daughter, CC, and I are having a girls weekend together in the North Georgia mountains.
I will catch up when I can.

Road Trip

I am going to see my college girl.

I have posted this image before.
Because many of my new followers have not seen CC I am posting it once more.
It is my favorite image of her taken by me.
It was taken with my wee Kodak Easy Share camera.
Her hair is not purple now but it flattered her while it was.
.CC's hair color changes every time I see her.
Surprise Mom.
She is taking a Chinese Literature course and she may be grey like me.
She currently has more papers to write than I probably ever wrote in college.
It was always science and nursing for me.

I may or may not be auto posting while I am away this weekend.
CC has to study much of the the time so I will have down time.

Joe and Clovis are keeping each other company at the old house.
