Windswept Ridge

Hello everyone.

I have missed all of you.
I am popping in to share a party and some news.

Windswept Ridge is the home of the former owners of Ridge Antiques
where we have our four booths.
They sold the business and are moving.
They gave a dealer and customer appreciation party on Sunday.
I thought you might enjoy seeing the house and some of the antiques inside.

They love Victorian antiques.

The staircase is tall and narrow. Yikes.

This is a gorgeous Oriental piece of art.
They once sold Oriental antiques.

The food was spectacular.
That punch had a kick as well as being pretty.

In Olive Out news the summer has got away from me in a hundred and fifty ways. Thank you all for checking on us. Joe is having a total hip replacement on July 29th. It was more than a shock to him that he needed this surgery. Joe has never had surgery or ever spent a day in hospital.
Please pray for Joe this Tuesday.

Because of his surgery I will be away from blogging for a while longer.
Do know I miss all of you.
I can be found on Instagram almost daily.

Love you, Miss you

Christmas House Tours

Hello my lovelies.
I have been all over Georgia and South Carolina recently snapping Christmas images.
  In The Rain.
If I do not get a sunbeam soon I may require an antidepressant.
My mood is affected by the weather.

This is the garage to the yellow house.
I love it.
Yes, I could live in their garage.
That is a climbing rose around the window.

This is the truck in the garage!
Over the truck and not visible to you is a chandelier filled with branches.
I am taking inspiration from this look and will fill my chandelier, on the deck,
with branches when I get the chance.

I forgot to mention this house was not on the tour.
Many do not allow photos-bummer.

The garden shed is cute too.
Joe darling, can I get one of these?

The white sofa with red accents was in The Mad House, a small cottage, we toured.
It was my favorite house on the tour.
With that name and with my continued absence I imagine you guys thought they kept me {wink}.

All images taken with my iPhone.
All images from historic Madison, Georgia.

Next post we will visit a town in South Carolina and my friend's house
 filled with primitive antiques.

Happy Christmas

White Window White Crib

In searching for  my teenage haunts in Murphy, North Carolina Joe and I ran across this house that was having a moving sale. It is part photo studio and the owner was gracious enough to allow me to photograph this beguiling window and crib.

The view is charming. The whole street has houses like this one. I used to visit an old Victorian house  here with my cousins.

All of these items pictured were for sale but were quite expensive.

I did make a few modest purchases but not of the white variety. I bought vintage chicken feeders.

Vinca

An iPhone shot of one of our sheds, at the old house, being overtaken by vinca vine.  Vinca is so plentiful at the old house we mow it with the lawn mower.

Bar Bits

 Good Morning.

It's Friday and I am happy to report it is cold here. Not in the mid 70's any more.
I am at our old house and freezing.  You can feel the air come up through the floor and walls. Shelley and I will be returning to the yellow house in a little while. Joe will join us later. Our old house is not for wimps.  Of course, I wimped out and had to have another house three years ago.

This is our bar at the yellow house filled with my bits.
My bits consist of McCoy Pottery, 1960's fruit, a chalk lamb,
glassware, family tea cups and more.
The homemade vanilla, while not really dark, smells divine.
I will be baking with it now.

This bar is so large I feel compelled to fill it, with my thrifty finds,
in the middle and at the end.

Happy Friday

Chippy Porch

Chippy front porch, with lantana, at our old house.
I fell through this porch in 2005 and the original early 1800's hand forged nails were still in the floor boards.
I had the most impressive bruise but was otherwise unharmed.
Joe has since rebuilt the porch floor but paint it-no that has not happened.
The county would raise our taxes.
Perfect male logic.

Spider Lilies

A sure September surprise is Spider Lilies popping up
in unexpected places at our old house.
I like to think they have been here for a hundred years.
After all the house was here prior to the Civil War.
There seems to be no plan as to where they are located.

They pack a lot of beauty in their brief appearance.

After the blooms fade is a good time to move them.
We shall be taking a few to the yellow house this year.
Southern Living magazine has an article about them this month too.

As they are one of my favorite flowers I will be linking to

Aliens, Siri, Our Old House, And More

I have been at our old house with Joe and Shelly Puppy this week.
Clovis traveled with me of course. For an old grouchy opinionated cat he travels well. Nothing about our one hundred and sixty year old house is easy. The most evident difficulty this week is we have no air conditioning in the living room or kitchen. Not a lot of cooking is happening. Because the ceilings are tall and the house is dark and cave like it is cooler inside than you would think.
Thank God for small mercies.

The images have little to do with this post except that I adore Black Eyed Susan's.

Where we are in middle Georgia has terribly slow internet MiFi service, with Verizon, and I can read two or three pages in a book whilst one of your blogs is being loaded on my laptop.  It makes my visiting you gals and guys an exercise in patience. I told Joe I was having problems joining a party last night and he laughed and said "If you had no blogging problems I would think you had been replaced by an alien, like in the book The Host." To which I rolled my eyes. By the way the movie adaptation of The Host by Stephanie Meyer is coming out next year and I am looking forward to it but am curious to how they are going to do it.

My five dollar dumb phone died last weekend.
We bought an iPhone which means I will be much quicker at answering email at my Google plus email address. I am definitely excited to have a better phone that will help me be more efficient. I think it will be helpful with our buying and reselling business and with the blog.
Siri does not understand my southern accent.
Isn't that a hoot?

My friend and neighbor Fancy and I are planning a two day trip, next week, to north Georgia. We will be going to the premium outlets, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Williams Sonoma, and many more. Fancy had never heard of Pottery Barn until meeting me (she does not read blogs) so it will be cool to witness her seeing Pottery Barn's beautiful linens and furniture for the first time.

You made it to the end....you are pretty, smart and patient.

I think the heat has gotten to me ya'll, thus I ramble.

Peppermint Finally Identified

My sweet Joe had this odd sculptural plant growing in a wine barrel at the old house when I met him.  We moved it to the yellow house two years ago and it grew very large but never bloomed. Joe did not recall if it bloomed or not. Lo and behold it does.
After two years here is the bloom:

It is a Peppermint Lily.
 Do you see those stripes?

Here you can see the tall leaves of this lily.
It is as tall as our lantana which is also tremendous.

The Peppermint Lily as seen through the cast iron bird feeder.

Have you had any garden surprises?

***Web***

The web appears to be floating on the ivy.

An astute reader remarked in a comment on my post about the nest that spider webs and birds nests are similar in their intricate weaving.  The difference being that birds must find their material and spiders make theirs. Spider webs are fun to capture in images as long as I am not close to the spider. We live, part of the time, in an antebellum home that is brimming with wolf spiders and we have an understanding. The understanding is that they cannot be view in the five rooms we use. If in view then they have to go. I fully realize they are hiding in all those nooks and crannies that comprise an old house.
If I thought about it for long, which I do not, I would never sleep there. Joe is completely unaware of the spiders. I swear he does not see them.
He has no spidey sense.

Blue Green Shutters

We have original shutters from our old house.
They are chippy.
Blue green and beautiful.

Joe cleaned these with a brush because they were covered in cob webs and spiders.
 I did not touch them.
Call me chicken.

The piece of equipment above is on the post of the shed the shutters were stored in.
Do you see the wolf spider holes?
 Shudder.
There is an area right now in Australia covered in these webs because of flooding.
Barns, fields, and trees appear snow covered because of wolf spiders.
It really is beneficial as the spiders will eat the insects that multiple due
to the water but I would have to move.
Every shed we own looks like that image above and also
the upstairs of our house which is not in use.
A squirrel is running around up there as I type this.
 It is not boring here.

I leave you with a shot I zoomed in on from the back of Joe's truck.
The filter is Window in Photoscape.
Now I am off to sell some shutters, old windows and a truck full of junk.
Thursday's are fun.
