Snow in the Deep South

Snow in the Augusta, Georgia area at Christmas time has not happened since the 1850's. Technically it still has not happened on Christmas day since then because it started snowing this morning at around eight am, the day after Christmas. That is okay. We will take it. It snowed once this year last February. Yes, we can recall every time it has snowed in these parts.

It is almost six pm now and it is still lightly snowing. Joe reports the front yard is now white. The three of us and our neighbor went shopping early this morning in the snow and it was so pretty. We went to church on Friday by the way and were transported by the the music and the message of True North Church.

For those of you who are inundated with the white stuff please do not laugh at my photos for we are proud of the least little amount we get!

CC is delighted by winter in general and snow in particular.

I pray you all had a blessed time with family and friends. We had a quiet Christmas day of cooking and a bit of visiting.
We have plans to paint the master bedroom here at the yellow house. We get distracted easily so we shall see if that project makes this blog.

grace surrounds us

  2. From what I hear, you are about to get about 2 feet of the stuff, Olive. First time in about 100 and something years - brace yourself! 1700 snowplows are now being sent down to Georgia, so Bing Crosby will finally mean something again. A good friend of mine lives in Atlanta, and she is about to get the same treatment, I think. Merry Christmas!

  4. Wow, I wouldn't have imagined you would get snow there. My brother left Toronto today at 4 pm and was denied landing in New York and sent back. While it is beautiful, it can be so frustrating.

I hope you had a lovely Christmas. I have so enjoyed your blog this year and look forward to your 2011 adventures.

  5. Oh Olive I LOVE your snow pics.... :o) ! If Tom is right though you're in for more than your fair share of the stuff....!!

It seems when it comes to weather, there are excesses all over the globe....I know here in Oz we've been in drought for years & have had severe water restrictions (you know....Flushing = If it's yellow let it mellow....If it's brown flush it down) to deal with however, over the past few weeks there have been floods across the country....!!

Well my Friend....KEEP WARM & enjoy your snow....!!

The HAPPIEST of New Years to you....!!

    Cheers,
    Tamarah :o)

  6. Oh your snow is gorgeous. I would be happy that it wasn't a lot. That can get really messy and not be so pretty. So glad you have a wonderful Christmas.

I got a chuckle at your story about the big cloche. lol So funny. It really is big, so boy can you ever put anything you want under it. Thanks for the visit. Hugs, Marty

Sounds like a lovely Christmas! Our snow is scheduled to arrive tonight. Fortunately we are only to get 2-5 inches. (an hour or so away they are expecting feet of snow)

Ah all in fun...I am so happy for all of you who were blessed with snow. I was blessed with at least 20 blue birds in my front birdbath this morning. Wouldn't that have been even more lovely with snow around? Oh well, I am disappointed, but there is still time for snow. Hope you enjoyed yours...the photos are beautiful! Happy New Year! Vicki

  12. We had about 2" of snow in NW GA & loved it! We spent most of Christmas Day sitting on our front porch, looking at the mountains, & watching it snow. My pups weren't impressed with the cold white stuff, though!!
I hope to post some photos later today!

  13. Oh Olive, I know you said not to laugh but I`m afraid I just had to! We`re getting used to the snow now and thankfully, although it hasn`t melted for over two weeks now, we`ve had no snowfall since then and travelling is possible now during the day. Take care, no broken limbs here so far so good but it can be so treacherous underfoot - boots with great grip are imperative!Happy Festive Season to y`all.

As a Calif. native I totally understand how fun snow is when it's not the norm, (it snowed 3 times in my childhood...)

  18. YAH! We got snow too! Wasn't it grand?! Okay now that it's over, is spring here yet??? Sorry, but "she" isn't too cooperative in letting me out when the wind blows and the temperatures drop. So bring on the SPRING weather ;)

Hoping you have a wonderful new year filled with all things grand and beautiful!

  19. Love your snow pics. You're such a good photographer. Did you ever get the big storm they were predicting, or did it miss your area?
We get lots of snow here, so we're equipped for it. But for warmer climates snow can really be a big issue, you don't have plows and stuff to get the streets cleared. Hope you have a happy and junk filled New Year!
