~Dog-Bird-Cat ~

Shelley's puppy feet.
I do not have more images of him because I am sick, with a cold.
I will catch up on Shelley pics, no worries.

I have been attempting to snap a red bird in the bird bath.
 Finally I did it.

A pair of doves.
We are especially fond of doves and the sounds they make. We already have about four hummingbirds and I am anxious to catch them with the new camera too.

Joe and Clovis
We are making an effort to give Clovis extra affection (as if he is ever neglected) while the new puppy is alarming him. Clovis stood on his back legs and smacked Shelley a couple of times. Then he sort of watched the puppy from afar with great disdain.

Clovis perched himself on the deck and glared at the puppy all weekend.
We are praying he will warm up to this puppy
Shelley walks between our feet and I am scared he is going to make me fall. I know I sound like I am 93 instead of 49 but I have had more than my share of orthopedic surgeries. He went to the vet today and weighs eight and a half pounds. He is going to be a large dog with those big paws.

Those are our Critters.

Our college girl, CC, comes home next week and she has asked three thousand puppy questions so far. She is terribly excited, thrilled, and delighted about our Shelley.

  8. I think as long as Clovis isn't scared to death of the new dog then they'll eventually become buddies. When we got the new dog, our vet said it can take 6 weeks for cats to get back to normal after a new dog comes into their lives. Hope you feel better soon!

  9. From experience I can say that the cat will establish the pecking order very quickly. Even our big hyper dog learned after a few slashes that she better just leave alone.

  12. Dear Olive,
I'm so sorry to hear that you are feeling poorly.......hope that your cold starts to get better over the next few days.
I love puppies paws...they always look out of proportion don't they ?!!.....and, your Clovis is the twin of our first ginger cat, Jaffa. He was a lovely cat and we had him for over 20 years.I'm sure that Clovis will soon make friends with Shelly and they will become great friends.
    Wishing you well. XXXX

  15. I hope you feel better soon.
Your cat will come around. If not she will find her way of ignoring him. I'm sure a little puppy is quite a shock to a kitty.

  21. Do you think Clovis is just glaring or plotting some nefarious means of ridding herself of this demon dog? lol My only house rule is that everything must get along. It did take close to a year to stop the vicious battles between my tomcat and the one my daughter asked me to take for her. Yikes, that was awful! I so hope you feel better before your daughter arrives! ~ Maureen

  24. Great photos of your wonderful critters. I love doves, too. I used to have so many of them around the property in San Diego. I see them less here, but the other day I saw one in the yard and it made me so happy. Their mournful, beautiful cries are one of my favorite things.

  25. How exciting to have a new puppy in the house! I have lived with cats before and they do take a while to warm up to new animals in the house, don't they? It must be a pecking order thing or something. Ha!

  26. Your critters are wonderful and their names are so beautiful!

  27. The redbird is lovely. I had to look it up; a northern cardinal. The one you snapped must be a female--no tuft on the head. Get over that cold soon!

  28. I didn't have a chance to leave a comment the other day so I'm back today. Several years ago I had a sweet little cocker spaniel named Danny. When Danny was about 5 I took in an orange cat that someone had left behind when they moved. Danny didn't mind at all and for the first few months the cat(Flash)was very nice to Danny. Then, I found another little orange kitty just about 6 weeks old(Peter) that someone was being cruel to so I took that kitty too. Well, the two kitties loved each other and Peter and Danny loved each other but Flash all of a sudden didn't like Danny anymore and would try to swat and scratch him every time Danny would eat or move. I had to make sure I kept the kitties nails clipped short so Danny's eyes wouldn't be hurt. Danny died when he was 15 and then it was just the two cats until Peter died at age 10. Flash lived to be an unbelievable 27 years old. All of my critters were very wonderful and sweet but I would advise to keep Clovis' nails clipped short. They will find a way to love or at least tolerate each other. You and I both love our little furry family. They give so much unconditional love to our everyday lives. XO

  29. Olive, in midst of the drama encircling our house lately I missed this post. So glad I went back to read it. Hope you are feeling better, as you said you are in your next post. Clovis will come around. When we got puppies with older cats around I found that letting the cat know who's in charge works very well. Especially since the dog will one day be bigger. I know the claws are a worry, but cats usually aim for the nose and are wanting to scare more than hurt (again, my opinion). Another trick I felt helped the cats adjust was to feed everyone in the same area at the same time. Dog is busy, cat won't usually eat, but will watch dog being busy. Can't wait to see full pics of Shelley and I know your daughter is going to fall in love. Ann
