Log Cabin Wedding

my friends but worth the look.

Our friends Cathy and Randy were married behind a log cabin from late 1790 or there about. This is the old door they stood in front of for their vows covered in  beautiful wisteria and bridal veil spirea flower arrangements. This property belongs to Cathy's best friend who is a professional florist who has done the flowers for the Georgia Governors Ball. I cannot convey the beauty of the grounds, house, and cabin. I wrote about their love story and engagement in my Hold Everything Lightly series in Love At The Hardware Store.

Many of the tables were covered in toile and the china on our table was transferware. 

The inside of the cabin was brimming with primitives and guests could eat at this table.

Now I want a cabin in my side yard. 

When asked what kind of cake she wanted Cathy said no cake. She replied "I want cakes." She had eleven different cakes made by her friends and family. We sampled as many as we could. The Humming Bird Cake was my favorite.

The Caramel Cake was gone before we got to the cakes. We had a wonderful time at this log cabin wedding. The attire was casual so Joe and I wore cowboy boots which was fun.

Thank you for your sweet comments yesterday. I am sore but doing just fine today.

Last Near Tablescape of Summer

The last near tablescape of summer.

The tablecloth is my best church sale find ever. 

Most days we use it as a throw in our den but I have just laundered it.

We are thankful for daily rains that have revived our flowers and grass. 

I have decided that when I do tablescapes (every other full moon on a Wednesday) I need a basket to carry plates and such to the patio table. 

This inspired the last near scape of summer.

My phone is creeping out behind the basket....Yikes.

Don't know why I like them I just do.

That little alabaster urn is from a local thrift store and it had four birds on it and one was broken so I simply removed all of them. That is not a cloche. It's a piece of a light fixture used as a cloche.

Look who had to check out the pinwheel quilt. 

Clovis thinks it is his now.

It has been an interesting and craZy week so far, at the old house, with The Shelley Puppy and Clovis. Shelley wants to play and Clovis wants none of it. Shelly gets in the litter box and makes a big ole mess. Shelley is still eating/chewing everything.  Today when I showered I gave him my leopard bedroom shoe  and said "Go ahead eat it ". When I stepped out of the shower he was asleep on it. 

That was precious.

Vintage Watering Can, Add Quilts

Friday morning I mentioned I was going to an estate sale. 

Usually I am early for estate sales but that was before Shelley The Puppy delightfully joined our family. I was three hours late. I had seen a vintage watering can in the online ad for the sale and just knew it had been sold. Upon arrival it was there and I was surprised. It was there because the price was, shall we say, elevated a bit and I was the idiot who bought it at that price.

I also picked up this quilt which is in perfect condition and one more pictured below. I have an awful time passing hand sewn quilts by. The seller did work with me on the price of the quilts since I bought two.

I have since washed this one and it is now whiter and brighter. This blue and white one is my favorite. I also found two bottles of Chianti (empty). They were selling bottles of liquor with the liquid inside.
 Happy trails to those folks.

 A very good year.

All in all a fun sale.

 There were two corner cabinets full of Fiesta ware but the prices were several times the watering can. 

I did not purchase any Fiesta pieces as I am an idiot with standards.

Nearly A Tablescape By Olive

I have nearly concocted a tablescape.

The roses virtually demanded  a pretty table be set.

I cannot keep plates and flatware symmetrical.

How all of you do it is beyond me. 

The camera catches every single fork that strays....yikes

So a nearly set table is as close as Olive gets.

I hope the setting makes up for my imperfections.

Sometimes I long for the mountains. 

Joe and I were in the north Georgia mountains last fall and we stayed in an old farmhouse B&B.

A quilt hanging in the dining room.

Fall leaves, the colors of the leaves make me want to pack an overnight bag.

Could I talk Joe into a little trip?

The Quilt and the Darkside

This quilt was gifted to me by Kadie, my cousin, last week. Isn't it lovely? It is completely intact and is full sized as most old quilts are. I placed it on our bed in our temporary bedroom at the yellow house. I call  this room the "The Darkside Bedroom," perfect for a night shift worker. It will  be Joe's office when I finally get the master bedroom painted. 

It is entirely hand stitched. I cannot imagine the hours that involved.

I took an  image of it outside on the deck.

Come in close and let's look at the embroidery on the pillow cases. It is a most unusual pattern and I purchased these many months ago in a consignment store near our old house.

Pretty vivid and purple. Yes?
The new yet old quilt brightens up all that darkness. Maybe we shall not join the Darkside as planned.
Kidding y'all. The master bedroom is going to be painted in Sherwin Williams Rainwashed. I must start stripping off wallpaper as soon as the Christmas tree is decorated.
