Elegant Home Office

The Talented B has redecorated her office. 

 It is an elegant and fun space with pops of blue. B is an excellent and skilled thrifter and this room is an example of her skills. Most of this furniture was found at garage or estate sales.

  The drapes were custom made.

The secretary was found at a garage sale.

We will talk about the different lamps, placed on this table, on the next post. Her friend, Olive, composed the wire cloche. This mirror is more blue than it looks. I apologize for not being a better inside photographer.

Olive also wants this lamp (another garage sale find). 

I love it. I have asked her to leave it to me in her will.

 You all know how I have a thing for lamps.

I buy them, sell them, keep them too.

B had the vintage bird print re-matted and framed.

 The love seat was also a thrifty find.

Wait til I get the rest of her house photographed y'all. 

This is only the second part I have been able to get done.

It is also noteworthy that I called her at 7:55 AM this morning and gave her five minutes notice that I was coming over with the camera. You want to be my friend now don't you?

In Olive Out news we are eyeball deep in getting CC ready for Korea. Plane ticket bought (that was a hoot and a half), tuition, and more money than I care to think about have been wired over there.  I am a tad crazy to tell you the truth. More on this later.

Spring Hearth

Pink roses, from our flower garden, on the stone hearth today for your viewing enjoyment.

I have only sharpened the images and the pinkness of the roses looks a little odd. I am not brave enough to fiddle with hue, saturation, and light or contrast on a new editing program. Not today. My learning curve is stretched super thin.

The vintage European watering can is an estate sale find from last year. You all have seen my white pottery scads of time before and the chippy white wood pedestal.  I found the reproduction tin tile at a garage sale.

Kitchen Island Styling

I have been moving cookbooks and pottery around the kitchen island. In addition the pink camellia bush in the flower garden finally bloomed and floating a bloom in a pretty dish is easy styling. I cannot grow peonies in our heat but camellias thrive here.

Is that not a lovely pink?

 Joe and I should be out in the early morning cold at garage sales by the time this posts providing I can manage to auto-post in the right month. Yesterday I found a vintage Easter basket at an estate sale and a couple of other items that have some vintage appeal. For a minute I could not think what I bought-I know a Turkey Platter (brown transferware from Japan). I am still trying to get myself together my friends.

What are you doing this weekend? Do tell. Whatever you do be a "good egg" as my book suggests.

Shiny Brite Ornaments

I ran across several boxes of Shiny Brite vintage Christmas ornaments this summer. 

It was either at an estate sale or a garage sale.

I cannot remember.

 I do remember the price was less than one dollar for a box. 

Much like the original price.

The boxes contain several different sizes and colors. 

My favorite is the white that almost looks like mercury glass because of it's age.

The white ones and small pinks ended up on the dining table. 

I cannot bear having them on the tree with a 75 pound puppy in the house. 

Truthfully though Shelly has not paid one lick of attention to the tree.

Today, despite having a cold, I ventured out to a few places. 

I had not left the house in three days and was getting a bit stir crazy. 

One of the stops was a thrift store where I dug through an enormous tub of ornaments. 

I found four vintage ornaments. 

It was worth the effort.

Thrifty Finds

I was not enthusiastic about going thrift shopping this morning. 

Five thirty AM when the temperature is in the mid thirties is not good for me. 

I warmed up to it when Joe and I found the mirror and grate. 

The grate may help me achieve my secret goal of becoming 

the crazy lady with too many yard ornaments.

I always pick up big empty frames for a song.

This Limoges tureen is from Thursdays estate sale. 

It has a crack so was cheaply priced.

 I see green ornaments in it for Christmas.

I had never seen one of these before. 

The paper in her skirt explains that each hole is for a cloth napkin. 

I will not be doing that.

A Thomasville solid wood etarge. 

We may sell it. Or not. 

It is heavy and in great shape.

Crazy Lamp Lady Explained

One could easily ask if I am becoming the crazy lamp lady? 

It would be a legitimate question. 

Do you recall last weeks lamp and shade?

 Keeping.

Just so you know Joe and I have a lamp clinic, of sorts, here.

 He can rewire them.

I rebuild parts missing with epoxy and then paint them.
Broken lamps are always a steal.
I never admit I can repair them.

 I rebuilt a rose, last month, on an oriental lamp.
 It sold quickly.

 I am not keeping this large, heavy urn shaped lamp. 

Please forgive me the wonky shade. 

The pineapple lamp is coming back to this spot. 

I seem to have a knack for finding lamps, with potential,

 at estate and garage sales.

Or do they find me?

Sometimes we find lamp parts at Habitat For Humanity Restore.

I keep harps and finials in a drawer and spare shades in an extra closet. 

I am forever switching shades with different lamps that I find. 

Restoring lamps and selling them has become a team project we both enjoy.

White Fall Table

The urn I painted has joined vintage pottery and a garage sale lamp on our white table.

This is a good example of mixing old pottery with new. 

The large white cachepot in an unmarked McCoy.

We bought this shade for six dollars, on clearance, from Target last year. 

We were waiting for a lamp to pair it with. 

Finally we came across this lamp on Saturday at a garage sale.

Total cost nine dollars. 

The burlap like shade, lit, gives a soft glow to our yellow walls.

Old Castles of Britain Tablescape

 Old Castles of Britain china by Johnson Brothers

 is perfect for a fall buffet near our deck.

 Thrifted Siam flatware and layered linens make for a casual yet warm setting.

You can see our enormous lantana behind the table. 

The lantana plays well with the trio of orange wee-b-little pumpkins.

A client of Joe's grew the larger pumpkin in the basket urn.

Best Find Ever: Lucchese Boots

   

See that 1883 label there above? 

They are Lucchese.

Squeal, dance, shout. 

 Pioneer Woman gives a pair away once and awhile. 

I found a new pair just like these for sale now for $585.00. 

The name of these are Blue Goat Boots.

We paid $20.00 after Joe haggled a bit with the young girl,
at the garage sale. 

They are my size exactly.

I probably should sell them but sometimes you should treat yourself. 

This time that is what I am going to do.
If they are knock offs do not tell me.

They fall into the category of My-Best-Find-Ever.

In Olive Out news today is my baby sisters birthday and I am taking her out for lunch.
 I call her Terrible T. 
She is sixteen years younger than me and I am just about her second mother.
 Proud to be.
My gallbladder is being whisked out on Friday and then we get back to our normally abnormal schedule.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers because I am ready to feel better.

Thrifty Dining Table For Fall

 We found this serving board made from an old door, 

this weekend, at a garage sale. 

Joe spotted it first. 

It has cute legs.

Chippy legs. 

These would be easy to make but for $8.00 this was a good deal.

The pumpkin colored pitcher is a FTD container found 

at a yard sale by my SIL. 

The candles were .25 cents at an estate sale. 

The new linen tea towel was $2.00 at an estate sale. 

The candle sticks are Southern Living Home bought at the Rusty Gate

the consignment store I consign at.  

Pumpkins will be finding their way on the table soon.

In Olive Out news we had house guests this weekend.

 We went to a local arts and crafts fair and to Saturday garage sales. I cooked once.I did link to a couple of parties and did not comment a lot. Y'all should smack me. In a couple of hours I go see the general surgeon about my surgery.
