One should always expect the unexpected.
The freezing temperatures last weekend have knocked back the blooming flowers, our lily of the valley, daffodils, and camellias are all burned by that freeze.
The lily of the valley and purple vinca vine are in the back yard at our old house.
The ghost plant was thriving in a strawberry jar and was toppled over and smashed
to bits but is still managing.
You cannot kill a ghost plant.
When I arrived at our yellow house yesterday there was no heat.
The heat pump was trying to come on but was not working. We have a friend and neighbor who knows the person to call for every thing and sure enough she had a heat and air man who was related to her son in law. He was here fifteen minutes after I spoke to him, on my cell, and repaired the heat pump quickly for a very reasonable fee.
Of course we can always heat with wood in the wood stove and we do that often but we need the central system to work.
That was unexpected.
It is good to know people who "know" people.
Any unexpected happenings going on with you?
joy and peace
Olive

ReplyDeleteHi Olive, oooh I love your Lily of the Valley!... those are my birth month flower!... hope you are nice and warm now... sounds like your weather has been rather Springlike... xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteI am always so sad when the spring flowers come so early and we get a cold spell and mess them up. I wish we could have a long and beautiful spring for once in awhile,as those first flowers after a long winter, are my favorites. Richard from my Old Historic House.
ReplyDeleteOur weather really is so strange these days. Hastas growing one day, then 2 feet of snow the next..now back to 45 degrees..so weird.

What a shame the frost kaled over your beautiful flowers. February is a bit unpredictable.
ReplyDeleteThe weather is so whachadoo everywhere. Hope all is warm now for you. Your Lily of the valley is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteWill they come back Olive in the Spring temps again?
ReplyDeleteThey might bloom again Debbie-we'll see. The pink camellias which are winter flowers look bad though.
ReplyDeleteCrazy weather we are having this year..last year all my daffs bloomed and then the snow hit them..I really love the lily's do they live in snow Olive?? I love any bulbs that wil come back each year..Thanks for coming by my dear friend..Your always so kind to me..May you have the very BEST day ever..Hugs and smiles Gloria
ReplyDeleteGloria, it does not snow here very often and the lilies are early spring flowers but last weekends freeze got them and froze them.
ReplyDeleteOlive, your Lily of the Valley is so pretty, and I'm not familiar with the ghost plant at all! I'm so ready for spring, aren't you?
ReplyDeleteGood thing someone came to your rescue. We used to have a functioning fireplace for yrs but no more so if that happened I'd have to move:) haha
ReplyDeletehugs
Carole
Your flowers still look beautiful, even if the frost did burn them a little. And I've never heard of a ghost plant, very cool! Sorry your heat wasn't working, but I'm glad you have a go to person who knows who to call to get things fixed!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
This weather is something else. What a shame about your plants. I am hoping my bulbs don't get confused and start to come up...that will kill them for sure.
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well with the old house and that you are nice and warm!
XO,
Jane
Olive, I can barely wait till we get some flowers here. I am so ready for Spring.xo, Susie(She Junks)
ReplyDeleteMy plants felt that punch too. The open blooms drooped but the new buds are fine and opening up beautiful blooms.
ReplyDeletePretty Lily of the Valley...I have daffodils blooming...it had been warm and they came up sort of early...now it's cold again and lots of snow in the mountains...rain here...but I love the rain! Hope you're all warm now...have a great day!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Olive, I have not seen a lily of the valley plant since I was a young girl. Love them so much. You are right, the unexpected pleasures and beauty are the best. Ann
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are beautiful, especially on this cold rainy day! I'm not a fan of the unexpected... glad you got it taken care of quickly:@)
ReplyDeleteOur family motto is "It's not what you know it's who you know." Glad you got everything in working order again. I have lily of the valley out back but it barely blooms. I have high hopes for this spring though...have a good weekend Olive!
ReplyDeleteGetting somebody to fix things fast is always a great story. So glad!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting to see Spring blooms! Gorgeous photos Olive!!! Glad you are warm again...
ReplyDeleteYes. We just found out we have to replace the leach field in our septic system - because of tree roots. To the tune of $7000. Unexpected and devastating.
ReplyDeleteTrying to stay positive !

so glad to know there is some flowers blooming somewhere!
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity about your flowers but good news that you were able to get heat again so quickly.
ReplyDeleteOh dear I was so pleased to hear your heating was mended promptly, knowing what it like to feel cold! That first photo of the snowdrop is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI picked some azaleas just for the color green and put them in front of our Mary statue in the kitchen and now I have beautiful pink flowers blooming in Feb in central Pa...pretty fun!
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower..pls follow back if you can.
