I hear you. I am not the Midcentury Modern type.
And yet.
I bought this.
The lamp is from the 1950’s and has it’s original fiberglass shade.
I paid $5.00 for it at a garage sale but found similar ones on ebay for $150-200.
It reminds me of growing up in the sixties when many people had funky fifties decor like this.
I am linking with Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for Table Top Tuesday.

I don't care how much it's worth, Olive, it's hideous.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! What a great find. I'm not mid-century - well, maybe if I had a spare house where I could play Mad Men all day - but I couldn't have walked from that either! $5.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great blog name! I can see why you "needed" that lamp. Love the funky design and classic color, and that shade reminds me of some my grandmother had. I wonder when this was produced?
ReplyDeleteTakes me back to my childhood. I would have bought it too.
ReplyDeleteI ought to say that I love the shade, it's just the ceramics I have a problem with!
ReplyDeleteI love it. It is very unique and so coooooool!
ReplyDeleteOlive, I do love it, even if others consider it hideous. I think with a ton of other MCM stuff it would be too much, but I think it has a lovely shape and looks great dispalyed simply.
ReplyDeleteTom-I know you are a sculptor and I could never afford your beautiful work (I have looked over your blog). I must scout around thrift stores, estate sales and tag sales as best I can.
ReplyDeleteWe have been watching Mad Men. Call this a Mad Men moment!
Hi Olive!!! I think this lamp is way cool! I would have bought it too!
ReplyDeleteDebbie@houseatthelake
Don't you just love it when you find a deal like that?!! I don't watch Mad Men, but I can tell you that any retro-lovin' person on the planet would kill for that lamp! Like Kim said, it's very coool.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a buy! I like it, it's really unusual which makes it cute...Christine
ReplyDeleteOh I really, really like it. I think it is very chic for today. Love the style and the shade. I would definitely have bought it. Thanks so much for linking to TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteQuite a neat lamp, it reminds me of I dream of jeannie....lol...and I dont know why.
ReplyDeleteHappy week,

ReplyDeleteIt's very unique! You love it or pass it by.
ReplyDeleteGreat shape-enjoy! Isn't ebay full of fun info:@)
ReplyDeleteHey - I have shoes that match that lamp! (Aladdin shoes with turned-up toes)
ReplyDeleteJan... who IS authentically Mid-Century
Well it's cool and you made it work!
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot...even when I'm not a mid-century lover either. It's nice to surprise ourselves from time to time!!
ReplyDeleteHi Olive! OH, what a cute little chuncky lamp and shade! You did good!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
shelia ;)
"Hi Olive" had to stop by to visit your Blast from the Past! I too am not REALLY wrapped in the 50s BUT I LIKE your lamp...Hmmm, what a deal!!! It is quite unique. LOVE the out of the ordinary shape!!! You really scored on this and it actually would fit just about anywhere.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Donna
I totally get the butt.....it is so cool...
ReplyDeleteOooops I mean but...
ReplyDeleteVery interesting....and a great price too!
ReplyDeleteSorry Olive! I wasn't trying to be cruel! Actually, I was sort of joking, because I knew how you were going to get all these admiring bloggy comments, and I just happened to be first on the scene, so thought I'd be contentious!
ReplyDeleteI have a question.
ReplyDeleteIs the word "Hall" on the bottom?
I would have bought it, too. It is absolutely perfect.

Bernie-no marking on the bottom that I can find.
ReplyDeleteTom-I actually thought I would get some negative resposes because none of my blog friends have MCM objects. Plus you are always a fabulous commenter. Do not stop. I have a twisted sense of humor also, probably from working in a hospital for a hundred years then in two prisons for the grand finale.
Hi Olive!
ReplyDeleteI think the lamp is just unique enough to be a great conversation piece. It is fun and it reminds me of old movies! Which I like!
OK, I actually like it. For real - not just a "bloggy comment". I collect some vintage pottery pieces and it reminds me of that type of thing. McCoy, Shawnee, Hull etc. I don't know if I could make a whole room around it, but it's funky enough to be an accent piece.
ReplyDeleteI am a so so fan of Mid Century Modern but I LOVE your lamp. hope you coming to the Barn Chick party being guest hosted by the wonderful Julie Marie at Idyllhours!
ReplyDeletecool....
Karen
I think it's cool! I would have bought it and I'm not a midcentury modern person at all.

Hi Olive...
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a huge fan of mid-century modern as well but this lamp is gorgeous!!! Ohhh...I love the lines of it! Love the design of the base and the shape of the shade...this really is a fabulous lamp and it looks sooo pretty with the shells! Thank you for sharing your great lamp with us! Wowzer...I think you made quite the deal at just $5. Like you said, the lamp shades alone sell for over $100!!! Sweet!!!
Warmest autumn wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design
