Painting Badly

How many members of the Olive Out staff does it take to paint the lid of a jar?
Two apparently.
Not that there is a staff. Just Joe and me.
I found the large jar at an estate sale.
It had an ugly brown lid.

It needed painting badly so I painted it badly.

I changed the nozzle on the spray paint can, made a squillion drips and Joe had to rescue the lid with his pocket knife and heavily distress it.

The ornaments seem to be old and I acquired them at an estate sale for nothing.
I think I stole them.
I did actually steal two lamps (we re-sell all these lamps) on Saturday from the nicest man.
I drove away and realized that I had not paid him and when I returned to his sale he said he could not remember so just take them.
I paid him.
I also painted a few Christmas items on Saturday that did not require Joe's assistance.
Maybe there is hope for me.

  1. Heavily distressed works great!!

  2. How cute Olive! You are Joe are too funny!!! Love your old ornaments. My brother has my Mom's old ornaments that he found when he was going through all the Christmas boxes she had that I will be getting. Can't wait to bring them home with me on Thursday.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  3. That sounds like some of my painting adventures. But y'all salvaged it perfectly. Love it!

It was funny too about you driving away with the lamps. And what a sweetheart you both were. He to say not to worry about it and you to pay him.

  4. I rather like the lid in it's distressed state! Love the ornaments. I had visions of your house filled with hundreds of lamps and am relieved to hear you re-sell them. lol. Ann

  5. Dear Olive,
I try to stay away from paint..I always make a mess and nothing I paint ever comes out the way I expected.
Wishing you and Joe a wonderful Thanksgiving..Enjoy the day..

  6. Haha!...painting badly. I'm always wanting a staff. It only seems right. Your committee did a great job!

  7. Staff?! I am a staff of one and often wish I could fire myself! lol Your free finds should net you some bucks and make up for the aggravation of your painting issues, right? You're lucky Joe is handy with the knife. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day! gobble gobble

  8. The jar looks great, love the old ornaments! I gotta get me some "staff":@)

  9. Nothing wrong with a little assistance. I enlist hubby as much as I can. I get stuck with the sanding most of the time.

Yes you should flock those many pinecones of yours! except they get soo sticky!

  10. What a cute and funny story, I hope your laughing now. I'm sure you weren't at the time your paint job wasn't working. Your staff is the same as mine, the both of us. I get rescued a lot! I love the final outcome of your lid given it was a long road there. I always try to remember my lessons, but I always forget and get the "don't your remember last time you did this". Ha, gotta laugh!
    Hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful.

  11. Love your little jar Olive... and how kind of you to pay for the lamps... sounds like a sweet gentleman you were dealing with... xoxo Julie Marie

  12. Gorgeous jar! I love how it turned out. Sometimes our projects take us down a different path than we least I know most of mine have:) And what a sweet story about the lamps and sweet little man.
Thanks for the smile it brough :)

  13. Love the jar, it is just perfect and the lid turned out super. The ornaments are fabulous. Sounds like the lamps were a great find too. Thanks for joining TTT and Happy Thanksgiving. Hugs, Marty

  14. Ah, that's not so bad. Really. You could have had the paint all over you and still be scrubbing it off! See, not so bad after all. And besides, the heavily distressed looks pretty darn good - you planned this didn't mew? You know so that it could be a project you did together??! Hey, it worked!

I hope mew both have a nice Turkey Day!!!

  15. Looks great Olive!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  16. I think it looks beautiful, Olive! I have done this myself, I have tons of old jars and find miss matched lids at thrift shops or yard sales and paint them. I love the Vintage look of it, and you did an amazing job.

  17. Olive,
you are to funny! Even though you took a round about way to get there, it turned out fabulous! Vintage ornaments are the best! Yours look great in the "jar"!
    Happy TK day.

  18. Well it looks great now! I have had so many mishaps with spray paint and then have to spend more time fixing my mistakes...Believe me, you are much better at it than I am! It really looks great and it's perfect for the ornaments.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving.
