Pumpkin Front Door

Happy Friday

 Leslie Ann from Fairhope Supply Co. said you could see my

turquoise bike from Kansas. 

Well here is my pumpkin door.

Can it be seen from Kansas too?

Not only did I use a spray can of paint (on the bike) I actually used 

a paint brush and painted two doors.

 I realize it is a lot to take in. 

Sit down if you must.

There are orange/pumpkin tones in our stone. 

While Joe was recovering from his surgery we had the house professionally washed. 

Prior to that we had a new roof installed.

We have been busy at home maintenance.

The paint is Valspar's Roasted Squash.

Painted Bike

It's been done umpteen times. 

 I still find a painted bike with a basket of flowers charming.

Sometimes, when motivated, Olive can use a spray paint can my lovelies.

I have had this bike for years. I paid $5 at a garage sale for it. 

The tricky part was finding the bike basket. 

However I have brilliant friends in high high places.

Baskets can be found online on Etsy and eBay but can be a tad pricey. 

Vintage bikes left unpainted are equally charming. 

One would disappear in our trees though.

Joe and I placed the bike behind our bird feeder. 

It can be seen from our kitchen window. 

It's all about our view.

Yes, I am going bold with color. 

Wait till you see my front door.

Functional Beautiful Secretary

Don't you think it is serendipitous when beauty is matched by functionality?

That is what we have got in this secretary I bought from my friend The Talented B.

She and her husband painted it with Valspar's Linen paint.

Tear drop pulls attract me every time.

Ball and claw feet get me too.

We will be organizing our bills and insurance papers in this piece.

I knew it would fit perfectly by our front door and it does.

Living Room Vignette

Good morning friends. 

I am happy all of you enjoyed yesterdays post with Shelley, Gremmie,and CC. 

We do love our babies. I drank in all of your comments.

When those photos happened I was actually attempting to take photos of the living room. 

The playful cat and dog would not have it.

The vignette of Marie 

 on the old white TV table changed a little bit. 

I placed an urn of faux flowers with sunflowers there.

 Then added a pair of white finials.

This flower arrangement was for sale in our booth and did not sell.

Do you like it? I am thinking about it still.

 I am partial to fresh flowers from my garden.

  Remember the thrifted lamp and Target shade? 

The finials were a birthday present.

I am still happy about this thrifted small oil painting dated 1951.

 It is older than me too. 

Straying over to the dining table to a lone image of a huge Charleston seagrass basket 

that I bought at Ridge Antiques.

 Shelley had been eating the vintage blocks which were closer to the floor. 

My Chuckle Heads keep me on my toes. 

No wonder I am tired.

Turquoise Spray Paint Transformation

I was armed with a can of spray paint over the weekend. It was a welcome relief from trimming shrubs {forty?}. I painted this candlestick. It was gold. A overly gold gold if you know what I mean. Lacking any patina whatsoever. I thought turquoise might pop on this piece which I paid little for at a garage sale.

I am going to sell it. Eventually.  I placed it down in the den, which I hardly ever show you, and I have taken a fondness for it.

It is the exact fit between the three crosses I thrifted recently. The difficult part of selling is letting go of items you want to keep. The solution to that conundrum is to keep them for a few weeks then sell them.

In further Olive Out news Joe and I accomplished much over five days. The large corbels on the house were painted and gutters repaired. We still have not finished with the shrubbery. Joe accidentally trimmed our Asiatic lilies. Men and power tools are dangerous. Especially when tired. However the flower garden is getting more sun and ventilation. The bunny rabbit has eaten the Black Eyed Susan's. I see the bunny several times during the day. No more snake sightings thankfully. The birdsong is lovely and normal. Life sweet life.

Saturday Friends&Family

Fancy, my dear friend and her grandson walking down the curvy road from our house to her house. We had been sitting on the ground, in our yard, digging in the dirt. He thought it was great fun.  All kids should dig in the dirt. This big kid certainly loves too.

Thank you all for commiserating with me about my ever so slow way of finishing a painting project. I am happy to know I am not alone on the I-May Never-Finish-A-Project front. 

CC leaves in the morning after church. Her spring break has been swifter than painting with chalk paint. Today we shall stay home in our pajamas and talk, talk ,talk some more:-}

Black Painted Coffee Table

Yes, I have painted a coffee table. It had lovely classic lines when I saw it at a church sale, last fall, and it was priced so low I felt the need to rescue it despite the fact I rarely paint furniture. I have no before image but the top of it was sorely abused and had numerous white rings on it.

I actually painted it last fall and finally waxed it this weekend. You are envious of my speed I know. I was spurred on by the fact I had to get to my lawn mower and the table was in my way. I cut grass (mostly weeds) yesterday with the push mower.

I distressed the edge all around the circumference of the table. I will be selling it. I hope someone will want it anyway.  Don't hang on the edge of your seats waiting for another project such as this because it is time to play with flowers.

White: Almost Converted

I can achieve this shot of the living room by standing on our stairs. 

I have been using Valspar's Churchill Hotel Vanilla spray paint 

on some objects on the coffee table. 

The three candle sticks were brown. 

 The large base for the cloche was bright gold. 

Now everything is a unified calming creamy white. 

The pair of urns are vintage and were made in Japan.

I declare I have been just about converted to white.

Almost.

I still have color on chairs and windows.
I am off to an estate sale.
It is across the world from our old house but it has
an one hundred year old tool box that is interesting.

Let's hope it's not five hundred dollars.
Budget budget.

Edit: The toolbox was enormous, beautiful, old, and  $1300.00.
 You can see an image of it in my picture gallery on the sidebar of the blog. 
If unsold the owner is donating it to a museum 
as it is filled with vintage railroad tools.
 Joe said they could donate it to his museum. 
Right.

Whimsical Field Stone Fire Place

A wire white tailed deer head.  

We think him rather whimsical. 

Up there on the stone.

My friend, Fancy, thinks we are crazy. 

She also thinks painting brown furniture is nuts. 

We agree to disagree.

The hearth was incredibly busy prior to these images.

 I had to remove a vast amount of clutter. 

I seem to have acquired many funeral baskets, cloches, and shoe lasts. 

The camera reveals all.

He is looking spiffy in the quatrefoil mirror. 

I paid ten dollars for our deer at Goodwill.

 If you like him be in awe of that price.

I did paint the round coffee table yesterday. 

Oddly enough I painted it with black latex enamel.

 Now I am trying to decide if it needs a finish on it. 

Wax? 

Poly? 

Any tips on this as latex enamel is an indoor/outdoor paint are appreciated.

I am traveling to the mountains to see our daughter CC in the morning. 

I will be spending the weekend with her.

 Joe will be here with the Fight Club(Shelley Puppy&Clovis Grumpy).

Painted Coffee Table

I painted the top of this small coffee table a creamy white color last week. 

I finished it this past Saturday. 

I paid next to nothing for it because the top was damaged.

I found that cute bottle at Goodwill.

I like how it turned out. 

Slightly distressed and not perfect. 

Shelly Cooper Shepherd Puppy has come out to play. 

He and Clovis throw down.

 I call them Fight Club.

Clovis (my cat) has a no puppy tolerance policy. 

Clovis would make Garfield seem cheerful and friendly.

Shelley, as I pen this, is destroying a pool noodle. 

We have to channel his ripping and shredding into

 ripping and shredding objects we have no affection for.

Life is sweet here with both the fur babies.

I am starting to paint a round coffee table today.
That is if I get out of my pj's.

Two Paint Projects

This urn was seriously ugly. 

 It had tacky gold paint on it.

 I gave it a coat of Valspar Satin Churchill Hotel Vanilla.

Paint project number two is a little wooden spice shelf.

Churchill Hotel Vanilla brings a coat of pretty where there was none. 

I have difficulty finding this spray paint. 

I tell Joe if he sees it to buy four of them.

 He has the number memorized.

Oh how I love that man.

This had blond wood and was crying out for paint.

 You can see I am using it for tea bags. 

I have been painting items off and on this year.

 I painted several candelabras and a tray turquoise and all of them sold.

The urn has found a place in the living room and I will be posting pics soon.
The spice shelf is in a dark spot in the kitchen and photos are impossible there my darlings.

Maybe I will get braver about showing my little paint projects.

Painting Badly

How many members of the Olive Out staff does it take to paint the lid of a jar? 

Two apparently.

Not that there is a staff. Just Joe and me.

 

 

I found the large jar at an estate sale. 

It had an ugly brown lid.

 

It needed painting badly so I painted it badly.

 I changed the nozzle on the spray paint can, made a squillion drips and Joe had to rescue the lid with his pocket knife and heavily distress it.

 

The ornaments seem to be old and I acquired them at an estate sale for nothing. 

I think I stole them.

I did actually steal two lamps (we re-sell all these lamps) on Saturday from the nicest man. 

I drove away and realized that I had not paid him and when I returned to his sale he said he could not remember so just take them. 

I paid him.

 

 

I also painted a few Christmas items on Saturday that did not require Joe's assistance. 

Maybe there is hope for me.
