Random Hearts

What's a blogger to do who has no Valentine's decor? 

I looked around the house for random hearts.

 I found three.

The cookies count as one. 

The terrier has the most darling hearts don't you think? 

A man gave him to me after Joe and I dug through his barn for treasure. 

The kindness of strangers is always beautiful.

Isn't it darling?

It was a gift and I adore it.

 This is what I now think of as the pineapple table because of the lamp.
I am also drying hydrangeas {in water} in containers all over this room as you can see.

Those metal objects are flowers frogs standing on edge.

I think David needs a bow tie.

Milk glass is universally appealing and I see this urn all over the place but that does not lessen the beauty of it for me.

Thanks to all my readers expressing concern about me hurting my back. I did cut grass, with the push mower, today but I did not cut a lot and I am taking it easy still.
Olive needs to be less wild in her gardening.

Baking Blueberry Cake Badly

The blueberry cake I baked yesterday turned out to be blueberry upside down cake. Me baking badly. Again:)

We have guests arriving in two hours, for the holiday weekend, so this will be our secret. I will tell them that it's a variation of pineapple upside down cake.

Do you want a bite?

Next time I will sugar and flour the darn berries.

I am not sharing the recipe because that makes me terribly nervous to do so on the blog. Yes, I am whacked I know. A friend baked one for us last week and it looked completely different (blueberries were oriented properly) than this one!

The cake pedestal is a recent vintage find from an estate sale just a mile down the road.

Blue Monday, Blue Chest

Happy Monday!

We have loads of excitement going on here at the old house.

I was walking in the big drafty, unheated hallway and IT WAS RAINING INSIDE.

Good morning to me!

The rain was all over a very nice antique oak wash stand. Moving furniture before coffee is never good.

That is one of the joys of this old house. The roof leaks when the wind blows a certain way.

Since it rained/sleeted/snowed apparently at intervals during the night a part of the tin roof blew off.

Then Joe slid into a ditch, with his four wheel drive Jeep, while at work. Someone pulled him out with a chain. Yay.

What I have planned for today has nothing to do with the above. Just sharing my Blue Monday issues. I thought I would show snippets of our bedroom at the old house.

This blue lingerie chest was purchased from a local antique store and works with Joe's paint colors. It appears gray but trust me it is turquoise blue. The lighting is poor today due to the Winter storm in full fling. Joe is not afraid of color. The plaster walls are peach, the trim is turquoise, and the base boards are purple! All painted before we married. His dad had painted the entire house battle ship gray in 1976 and these colors were a welcome relief I imagine.

The milk glass bowl was given to me by my dear cousin. Every item scattered on this table has meaning for me.

This gives you some idea of the original bull's eye molding we have on the windows and doors downstairs in the old house.

Black Onyx, Nekkid Man, and Kittens

How is that for a title?

I had way too much fun at an estate sale this weekend.

I went Friday and purchased a few pieces of pottery and promised myself I would not go back.

So.

I was going to an art show on Saturday except I could not find it.

I was very berry close to the estate sale.

Promise to myself broken like a stale saltine cracker.

Most everything except the Persian rug (I wanted it too) and large furniture was one half off.

I bought a Quimper tea cup and saucer, black onyx Fenton urns,  and best of all a large canvas transfer of a little girl holding two kittens.

The picture was difficult to photograph and the image does not do it justice. It is so pretty.

I almost forgot my nekkid man urn. Hehe he is nekkid I think!

I refashioned the dining table at the yellow house using the urns, an old brown bottle, and wrought iron pumpkin holder.
