You dropped off casseroles. You brought cake. My Texas poet and friend, Debra from Talking Trash said it best in this comment, "If I were there, I would bring you a casserole and chocolate cake, but more importantly a shoulder to cry on." You cried with us and hugged us.
That is what friends do. To say that all of you who commented, commented again, and wrote emails to check on me, when I told you Clovis died on Thursday, are friends is an understatement. I feel as if we had tea or coffee with our cake. We spoke of Clovis, our dear kitty. I told you how he smelled of sunshine. I told you how much we three loved him. You listened and that was enough.
But for me to say thank you is woefully inadequate
Thank You
Olive
P.S. The next post will cover mine and CC's Pottery Barn Outlet visit, stay tuned. I am trying to get myself together.
Oh how we miss our little fur balls of love. Mine was a springer spaniel, thirteen years. He brought so much love into this home and the roses are dried and still where I placed them, sent to me from my sister. The tears are gone but the love is still in my heart! It will be the same for you dear Olive. Thinking of you..........

Shopping heals all wounds.
ReplyDeleteCake too.
At least it distracts for a while.
Hugs again to you.
I have a lump in my throat. Pets leave us far too soon. They grow old too fast. And they never leave our hearts. Take care, my friend.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Oh, Olive! I know it's not easy and my heart still breaks for you. I just feel like when we get to Heaven we'll be met by Jesus and all of our little pets who have gone on before.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Shelia :)
I was raised watching the women in my family bring food when someone they loved was sick, down, or someone had passed; be it family or a friend. It was baked with love to say what words couldn't. Sometimes words can't fill the ache, but cake can fill the soul. You, my dear, are a beautiful soul and while Clovis will always be the heart of your heart, I hope you take some comfort in knowing--he knew it too.
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
Debbie
In your own words, Olive - 'That's what friends do.' all our thoughts and prayers go out to you, love Molly xx
ReplyDeleteOh Olive, I was just reading about your kitty when your comment came in. ((((( Olive )))))) I am so so sorry. We lost our sweet kitty this time last year and it broke my heart. She was a grouchy one too but a very endearing grouchy soul. We had her for 21 years. I still think about her all the time as she was always under my feet. I am thinking about you! xoxo
ReplyDeleteDear Olive, I love it that Clovis smelled of sunshine! You are bound miss him so much. Even I thought I knew him through your blog posts. I loved the photo of him with the new island. I am so glad that you have had so much support my friend. Please write about Clovis as much as you want. We will love to hear your stories. Hugs and thank you so much for your comments over at my place.
ReplyDeleteIt's getting harder and harder for us to get a new pet who may become some other person's responsibility. And then some morning we'll probably find a stray kitten in the garden.....
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for the loss of your dear Clovis. Losing a pet is so hard, and only time makes it a little easier.
ReplyDeleteTake your time.......that's the only way to lessen the hurt. I lost a poodle almost twenty years ago and there are still times when I open the front door that I think she's going to be there. They become such an integral part of our lives that it truly is a death in the family.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you.
Judy

ReplyDeleteMona

ReplyDeleteOh Olive, I am so sorry to hear about Clovis. We lost our dear Lionel last November, after 12 years of amazing companionship. That cat never knew he wasn't a people. I know how hard this is, and I am thinking of you. BTW, I love the photo of Clovis on the sidebar.
ReplyDeleteMy dear Olive, I am so so sorry to hear about your sweet Clovis!I know how you feel... we lost our dear Baby not long ago. It's a sad time! I pray that God comforts you! I will be thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteHi, I am your newest follower and fellow kitty lover. So sorry to hear of the loss of your dear pet. We have had several kitties through the years and it is so hard to lose them. We lost our last one "Mr. Kitty" in 2010 and I haven't been able to bring myself to adopt another cat because we get so attached and they become like kids. My heart goes out to you.
ReplyDeleteSo cute cat. You may love this so much. Thank you for your nice cake. PlantWerkZ
ReplyDeleteIt's probably a good thing so many of us live so far away. Your kitchen would have been overflowing with gestures of sympathy from all of us who love you!
