Pottery Barn Outlet Fall

Pottery Barn Outlet last weekend was all decked out for fall. 

Pumpkins orange and mercury glass were plentiful.

Lots of images ahead.

Go get a drink and drink in the PB.

This rug is gorgeous.

Baskets in all shapes and sizes.

The back of the store is chock full of furniture and has a wall of rugs. 

I wanted this leather chair while Joe objected to its $899 price tag.

 He could not be convinced. 

There would have been a %20 discount from the outlet mall.

I will find a leather chair. 

Yes I will.

Broome Closet Booths {CeCe Caldwell Visits}

Hello friends.

The Broome Closet booths at Ridge Antiques

 in Ridge Spring, South Carolina have been more exciting than usual. 

The French gentlemen's chest above, painted by Beth, with CeCe Caldwell paint sold to an unexpected person. 

CeCe Caldwell came into the shop and bought it. 

She also purchased other furniture pieces from us and throughout the store.

 She is taking them back to Arizona where she has a store.

Beth and I were quite happy about that.

Edit: Beth tells me the French gentlemen's chest is painted in Young Kansas Wheat.

The twig wreaths are handmade by my brother in law from his Georgia creek vines.

We have a good bit of transferware.

We love it.

Don't you?

Our garden booth has many fall items. 

We love pumpkins.

We are  restocking the booths today and tomorrow. 

The Ridge Spring merchants are having a sidewalk sale on Saturday.

We truly appreciate all our customers. 

It is always thrilling to have sales.

Thank you all for your many well wishes for Joe.

 He returned to work yesterday.

Odor Removal From Old Furniture

My thrifted dish cabinet smelled of a musty old house and worst of all cigarettes. 

It was stained with nicotine inside and out.

Dawn soap, white vinegar, and coffee grounds

ODOR REMOVAL FROM OLD FURNITURE

1. Clean entire surface of wood with warm water and Dawn soap. Dawn is an excellent degreaser.
2. Go over entire surface of wood with warm water and vinegar. This may need to be done multiple times.
3. Place used coffee grounds in containers inside furniture in multiple places. Change coffee grounds frequently. The grounds absorb odors.

Charcoal briquets could be used in place of coffee grounds.

A reader of this blog also suggested crumpled up newspaper inside the cabinets.

 The back wall of the piece is particle board. 

and therefore almost impossible to wipe down.

Because of this I only removed about 75% of the odor but that is still a vast improvement.

 I could replace that board and remove a lot of odor.

 On a fine solid wood antique this process would be more effective.

It is almost impossible to remove mold and mildew odors from furniture. 

I do not buy furniture that smells like mildew or that has water stains.

The English roses I am allowing to dry inside the cabinet are leaving a lovely natural rose scent.

 So dry some scented flowers inside your malodorous furniture too.

Junkin Finds

It is never a bad idea to pick up a scale or a Delft blue cow creamer. 

I doubt the creamer weighs over seven pounds though. 

This corner of our dining room is full of recent flea market, junk, and antique store finds.

 I am enamored of old beat up buckets.

 They are elevated from their humble status when planted with flowers.

That is not a garden watering can but rather a gas station radiator water can. 

If you are old enough to recall full service gas stations you may remember these. 

I would plant Blue Daze flowers in it.

I own three stick tables. 

This one has beautiful folk art painting on it. 

I was thrilled to uncover it in a junk shop buried under a large box.

The wood on this stool was incredibly dry. 

I practically gave it a bath in furniture paste wax.

 I like it's legs.

All of this is tagged for the booths and packed in the Jeep except the cow creamer. 

With my transferware  addiction-she's all mine.

I am scheduled for ear surgery this Thursday. 

I am ready for it as I have migraines and a persistent earache.

I will let you, my peeps, know what happens. 

Invariably I always create some sort of drama. 

Or Joe thinks so anyways.

Living Room Chairs

Hello friends.

 I hope you are having a good week.

The chippy green primitive chair in our living room has acquired 

a vintage suitcase and a basket of fall gourds.

I found the white chair at an estate sale.

 It is slip covered but pretty rough otherwise. 

Yes, I nailed a chair to the wall.

It has beautiful primitive curved legs.

 It's a child's chair and was hand carved. 

I think it's a piece of art.

If it was on the floor the legs would be unseen. 

 Dried forsythia is in the urn. 

I dried it quite by accident and liked how it looks.

Primitives and More

Happy Monday my friends.

Isn't this a great tower of primitive crates? 

It is in Bob's booth in Ridge Antiques.

He is one of the owners.

I love this beautiful religious piece.

 I have a similar one, at my house, that I cannot let go of.

Yes, I am a terrible seller.

A marvelous urn. 

I think this is Jimmy's.

 It is hard to keep up with all their booths.

 The three of them have a lot of space in these two joined buildings. 

They also have a lot of knowledge about antiques.

Mary Ann has quite the collection of flow blue in this magnificent corner cabinet.

These tear drop knobs are something serious on this chest.

The image is blurry but I love this piece that Mary Ann has in the kitchen area.

Mary Ann has a great flair for primitives.

 All you rooster lovers look at these old rooster dishes. 

She has an enormous set. 

I am eyeing that chippy red toolbox in the center of the farm table.

I hope you enjoyed Jimmy's, Mary Ann's and Bob's booths. 

They own and/or manage Ridge Antiques. 

They are lovely people and I am honored to work with them and Beth.

Elegant Home Office

The Talented B has redecorated her office. 

 It is an elegant and fun space with pops of blue. B is an excellent and skilled thrifter and this room is an example of her skills. Most of this furniture was found at garage or estate sales.

  The drapes were custom made.

The secretary was found at a garage sale.

We will talk about the different lamps, placed on this table, on the next post. Her friend, Olive, composed the wire cloche. This mirror is more blue than it looks. I apologize for not being a better inside photographer.

Olive also wants this lamp (another garage sale find). 

I love it. I have asked her to leave it to me in her will.

 You all know how I have a thing for lamps.

I buy them, sell them, keep them too.

B had the vintage bird print re-matted and framed.

 The love seat was also a thrifty find.

Wait til I get the rest of her house photographed y'all. 

This is only the second part I have been able to get done.

It is also noteworthy that I called her at 7:55 AM this morning and gave her five minutes notice that I was coming over with the camera. You want to be my friend now don't you?

In Olive Out news we are eyeball deep in getting CC ready for Korea. Plane ticket bought (that was a hoot and a half), tuition, and more money than I care to think about have been wired over there.  I am a tad crazy to tell you the truth. More on this later.
