Remarkable because we grew the potatoes.
It was a happy accident.
The potatoes grew in our compost pile.
Joe had never dug potatoes and it was fun seeing him dig for the little brown treasures. We also have two volunteer tomatoes and a watermelon growing under our picnic table.
We don't flip our compost often enough.
One of the tomatoes is growing next to a new hydrangea because I placed compost around the new plant. They seem happy together. We had large green tomatoes hanging on the plants and deer came through the yard and ate them last week.
Maybe potatoes is a safer crop for us

Your breakfast looks divine. I have not had eggs and hash browns in forever. I might have to crack myself an egg for lunch. Hope all is well and you are enjoying the summer. It's flying by!
ReplyDeletelooks delicious. yum. thinking i need breakfast. ?? ha. ha!! (:
ReplyDeletenow that's interesting! looks yum!
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely - I enjoy little treasures that arrive in the garden unexpectedly, especial when they are edible.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots there today Olive. I love the one where the cooker is nice and clear, and the frying pan a little blurred. I'm still trying to work that one out, even with my expensive camera! LOL!! What a special find, and I bet those hash browns tasted really good. Thank you by the way for that tip on when I make my photos extra large. It certainly seems to work!
ReplyDeleteAmazing what one can find growing in the compost/yard! It's not so hard afterall to grow one's own veggies.. so it seems, LOL!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your breakfast and have a great day.
Edible volunteers are quite a gift. This photo is making me hungry, by the way.
ReplyDeleteI can remember the taste of Yukon Golds, right from our garden. We had to find them before the dogs, who loved them enough to dig them up and eat them. Also green peppers and cauliflower. The tomatoes were for the deer. We haven't planted a vegetable garden in three years.
ReplyDeleteThe breakfast looks delicious and is making me hungry.
ReplyDeleteA happy accident! How fun and certainly delicious. Wonder what's under my compost?? Ann
ReplyDeleteFlip compost? That's a rarely used concept around here. Volunteers are a magical gift!
ReplyDeleteI love the stuff that seeds itself and shows up as a big surprise! Free food! Looks delicious. ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteThis is so neat! I have a volunteer zucchini and it makes me smile every time I walk by it. Those hash browns look delicious!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
HI Olive! How marvelous to have little veggies popping up or under around your place! Your breakfast looks so good! Sometimes I fix breakfast for dinner! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping in to see my little Glitter houses.
Be a sweetie,
shelia ;)
I can just see your husband digging the potatoes out of the compost bin! We have all sorts of things growing in ours right now. In early spring, some pumpkins came up and I transplanted them. We had pumpkins in July! Rotting now, of course, in the heat.
ReplyDeleteHappy accident, indeed. Great looking breakfast.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Everything I've tried to grow this year has been a disaster, and here you "found" potatoes! That's too cool-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteOkay no fair. I tried to grow potatoes this year and only got four pathetic ones and you grow them wonderfully in your compost. Maybe that is where I should try next time.
ReplyDeleteI love volunteers! They seem to be so happy and just pop into our lives to give us their fruits. YOu image of your potatoes with the egg made me so hungry!
ReplyDeleteA very happy accident indeed! I have a tomato growing in the front flower bed...I think the birds planted it for us! It's getting quite tall now! Have a great evening!
ReplyDeleteOlive, That reminds me of the sweet potatoes that grew in my mailbox planter. I had planted a vine along with flowers to fill the planter up, it was funny, 5 skinny long potatoes. Too bad the deer ate your tomatoes. Hvae they been eating your flowers too? xo, Smiles to you, Susie
ReplyDeleteLove it! Potatoes are so fun to harvest because you never know what your going to get. It's so fun to get a good size potato. I know...silly. Ah, the little joys in life!
