We may complete our master bedroom renovation in say 2014.
When that happens I envision a suitcase bedside table.
We now have enough vintage suitcases.
Thanks to the porch sale last Saturday the tower can commence.
We bought these three leather Samsonites.
The suitcases have not been cleaned or polished.
I will polish them with bees wax.
Clovis is showing you a chippy plaster oval frame I picked up for one dollar.
I found a spot for it on one of our walls.
Yes I did.
We have three other vintage suitcases in our living room.
All obtained by thrifty means.
See them here.

What fabulous old suitcases treasure them. Oh and no ghastly pop up adverts today my friend :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love the rich color of them. Can you imagine new suitcases lasting like that. No way. They are going to look great Olive. Love your sense of style.
ReplyDeleteThose are glorious suitcasey vintage dreaminess. I always find scuffed up plastic ones. Love seeing your finds.
ReplyDeleteDo you really need all three??? I am need of one more:)
ReplyDeleteBeeswax! What a great idea :) thanks! We love our suitcases as well, and so many come to us so dull....didn't think of the beeswax! Love your 2014 optimism....maybe that's what we need to do to focus on a big re-do...ha!!
ReplyDeleteEither one of those two top suitcases could have belonged to my dad. Purchased in 1953. Should I look for the key?
ReplyDeleteThose are really nice and I love the idea of them being a side table.
ReplyDeleteThose are some really nice looking suitcases. I like the frame too.
ReplyDeleteOlive, those are such gorgeous colors, and look to be in great shape! what a wonderful find.
ReplyDeleteOlive those are wonderful. The mixture of colors and textures are beautiful! Is that bottom one stamped or real skin? If real skin, it's really a treasure!
ReplyDeleteThat Clovis. Good taste if I've ever seen it. Cats know what it's all about. They get it. (Or they're wondering what she brought in this time?) I never thought about polishing suitcases! Now I'm eying my dullards wondering... I was going to try to get some beeswax today too, coincidentally.
ReplyDeleteI want to do the same thing with the suitcases. So far I have found only one and then I seemed to forget about it. You have inspired me to include them in my list of things I am searching for.
ReplyDeleteOlive, those suitcases will be great bedside tables. In 2014. Oh, you'll get to it before then! Love that frame, Clovis always has the best taste. Ann
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous suitcases Olive! A great find!
ReplyDeleteI love that oval frame. And of course you had to buy it since it was only $1.00. You find the best stuff!
ReplyDeleteI have a set of three of the Samsonite alligator ones from my MIL but I think they are smaller...I also have one that in my mind looks suspiciously like the top one in which the girls used to store their coloring books but which I recently released from that purpose and is now awaiting a new career.
ReplyDeleteLove suitcases. :)
What wonderful luck you have Missy!!!!
ReplyDeleteVintage suitcases are a weakness of mine...I can never have enough!!

Love your suitcases. They will be great as a bedside table.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great week.
I think the suitcases will make a great bedside table. I always love $1 plaster frames!
ReplyDeleteOlive I love those old suitcases from way back when. The oval frame is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI like your bottom suitcase and I have 3 pieces like it I brought it all home from a trip out to Portland Oregon once, back when you could have more than one piece of luggage on a plane
ReplyDeleteI have mine full of treasures now
loving the suitcases. I am slowing adding them to my collection.
ReplyDeleteOlive,
ReplyDeleteyour suitcases are fabulous, I have one like the one on the bottom. I've been collecting them for years and have picked them up for as little as a dollar at auctions and yard sales. Probably have about 20, does that make me a hoarder? LOL! The bad thing is that they are all full, very scary!

I love your vintage suitcases and what a great idea to wax them. I know what you mean about a reno in 2014. We'll be lucky to do a kitchen reno then!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful suitcases. My grandmother used to have blue ones like those. They always smelled like cashmere bouquet on the inside. I wish I could find some like those. They will look beautiful as a side table.
ReplyDeleteOver the week-end I watched a show I think on HGV. It was about a Junk Prom in a barn. What they did was so fun. They made a coffee table from old suitcases. They drilled them together and used feet for them. It was so cute. If you need to know more, let me know and I will try to remember.
ReplyDeleteLove your suitcases! I've got a small collection going myself. Hoping to make a little side table for my son's bedroom. Yours are great looking!
ReplyDeleteyour suitcases are fantastic, Olive! stacked together they look perfect! wow. I am crazy for old suitcases too...
ReplyDeleteKaren
What a find your suitcases are~ I love the idea of using them as a bedside table, not to mention the extra storage they will provide for linens or dishes you could squirrel away :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful find Olive! I love old suitcases but sad to say I only have one. Enjoy your day, Gail
ReplyDeleteOlive, I love those case !!! I have some old samsinite suitcase, i want to turn into something wonderful. I like the dollar frame...sweet. Smiles, Susie
ReplyDeleteHi, Olive! Oh, how I love old suitcases... There's just something about the worn areas on the handles and around the latches that makes me feel like I've peeked into a mysterious stranger's long ago travels. They'll make a beautiful bedside table. Stopping by from Wow Us Wednesdays. Thanks so much for sharing your treasures! ~ Mary
