Display What Is Important To You

Architectural elements like columns and posts add textural interest to a room.
I found these two posts at a resale shop. They were expensive.
Sometimes Olive falls hard and fast from her frugal ways.
If I really like something I will buy it though.

The sweetgrass basket was purchased for me by my darling father at the Charleston, S.C. Market.
It is filled with funny little bits that I like.

I do not over think vignettes.
The word vignettes is over used by us bloggers these days.
I put on the coffee table what is important to me and pleases my eye.

I love the small Sunday School chair.
It reminds me of an innocent and simpler time.
I bought the chippy bird from a good friend who has been on my mind lately.

Display What Is Important To You

Decorate for yourself and not for what you think "others" might like whoever "they" may be.
Use your favorite items, family mementos, quirky items that only you may "get."

If you love flowers and nature bring them inside as well.
I decorate with books because I love to read.
I have read all the books you see in my home.
Make your spaces reflect who you are.

In The Booth...

I hope you, my peeps, do not mind if I show you what The Talented B and I have in our booth at Ridge Antiques. I am over the moon about this turquoise tole tray. B painted the sweet chair and recovered the seat.

Then the find of all finds, by B, is a vintage laundry basket.
It is filled now with old frames. You do not know how badly I want to bring this home with me.
But I am currently paying for a trip to Korea for CC. We are booking that flight today.
Kiddos come first.
Shucks.

Come see us if you are near Ridge Spring, South Carolina at Ridge Antiques on Highway 23.
Ask for The Broome Closet booth.
If you enjoy primitives the store has plenty of them.

Rusty Motel Chair

How are y'all doing this Friday? I am super tired but pressing on anyway.  Donna and I found this rusty scalloped motel chair last Saturday at an estate sale. The rusty chair is a little wobbly therefore I am using it as a plant stand.

We had a thunderstorm last night, which I slept through, and that is why the pine trees have rained down upon the deck. I have sanded the chair and waxed it.

I went quickly to two estate sales this morning, then made chicken salad, broccoli salad, and did some gardening. I still have too much to do before Joe arrives but am taking some time to blog. I did not have time to help Fancy clean her house when the golfers left today(seven leave and seven check in-that's crazy). I enjoyed all your comments on the last post I wrote about Fancy renting her house.

Happy Friday

Green Chair Green Basket

The green chippy chair I found for three dollars and a wicker green funeral basket (this one still has it's galvanized liner)  filled with dried hydrangeas from our Nikko Blue are now in front of the sunny bay window. The green chippy chair makes every item I place on it look better. The chair is one of my favorite thrifty finds.

A large old basket with handles happily sits beside the chair. Somehow I must pile items in front of the bay window. I often place throws in the basket but spring is here and we no longer need throws. I snapped these images today because I actually dusted, vacuumed, and mopped the floors. Shelley's hair gets in every nook and cranny but he is Big&Sweet and I really do not mind.

Yesterday CC and I stayed out all day and I never picked up the laptop. We ate Vietnamese food for lunch which is our favorite Asian food and then we shopped at a large Asian market. If CC is home that is simply what we do. The schedule for the week is full, full, full.

Green Chippy Chair&McCoy

The green chippy chair has to be in my top ten thrifty finds.
I paid three dollars for it.
 And ran with it.

The McCoy planter is Joe's mother's.
We found it, intact, buried in the yard at our old house.
I posted about it a while back and my astute readers identified it as McCoy.
 It is unmarked.

Happy Sunday my astute friends

Pottery Barn Outlet Holiday 2012

Fall tablescapes, pumpkins, and lanterns were in the front windows
but Christmas reigned supreme throughout the store.

If you look at the clipboard, on the left, dining chairs were buy one get one for a penny.

I would like to have some of these sunflower stems.

This is a happy Christmas vignette.
Many customers were buying the rustic reindeer.

This neutral sofa looks wonderful pepped up with red pillows.

The candy canes are in the children's section of the store.
I like their generous size.

All images were taken with my iPhone.
I did ask permission and was told I could take "a couple" of photos
but they were actually not allowed.

My last PB Outlet visit includes fall vignettes.
July Fourth tablescapes in the Pottery Barn Store are here.

CC and I had a lovely time together.
The weekend was far too short.

White 1920's Child's Chair

The child's chair is a little beat up and Joe rolled his eyes when he looked at it.
I told him we are not going to be sitting in it now are we?

For now it is tucked to the left of the stone fireplace.
I can easily see it on the buffet holding china.

What To do With The Space Behind The Sofa

The space behind the sofa.
What to do with it is always the question.
We want to maintain the walking space so no table here.

So in comes some goodies. You know a little of this and that.
Vintage lanterns in a basket, my own childhood chair and hat boxes you have seen before.

At the last minute I placed the tole tray to the left.
I hope Debra from Common Ground sees it because she has quite the collection of black tole trays.

♣♣♣

All my test results were negative and while not feeling 100% I am much better.
Thank you for thinking of me.
I did get some work done earlier today.

White Chippy Chairs In The Lantana

Here I go again stuffing chairs in amongst the flowers.
It is hard to resist.

It is difficult to determine scale in these images but these are children's chairs.

Yellow paint is peeking through.

Our lanta bush, affectionately known as "The Monster" because it is bigger than my car and tries to cover the roses and any other plant in it's path. I constantly trim it back and Joe dug half of it up this winter and we cannot tell one bit of difference. I give pots of it away all the time.

Would you paint these chairs?

The one on the left is a bit too chippy for me. I will probably be passing these on to my photographer friend. Can't you see two little sisters being photographed in them? Or a brother and sister. Or any combination of kiddos.

Speaking of my friend, I will be posting professional images of Joe,  Shelley Puppy, and me very soon. Get ready for them. I am not sure I am ready.

Do you put upholstered chairs in your hedge?

I had to sit in our truck and stare at this chair in a church yard
with our puppy on my lap for fifteen minutes.
What could I do except run in and buy it when the church sale opened at 8 AM?
Normally I do not buy furniture.
I don't like lifting big pieces.
It wears on me after a while.
However this chair got to me.

As I was negotiating the purchase of the chairs Joe locked Shelley Puppy in the truck with the keys.
Pain, an early Saturday start, and Shelley all made for confusion.
Joe is going to pinch me for writing that. Yikes.
He was able to get his skinny long arm in the cracked window and unlock the door.
Joe has worked this week and is tired but did okay.

It's fortunate the gardenia hedge is blooming now.
Don't you put upholstered chairs in your hedge?
We nearly ripped out this hedge when we bought the yellow house because it looked awful.
We were woefully ignorant of what it was.
Walk within four feet of it and the scent is divine.

I am not keeping the chair as I have no room for it.
I bought a very chic Mid Century Modern chair at the same church sale
and I am seriously considering keeping it.
It has a high back and is throne like.
I see it as a dining chair.
Now I need one more.

~ finding a seat~

The living room was rearranged, last weekend, because it had to
accommodate a large number of people.
Extra chairs were brought from upstairs for our teens to use.

This petite rocker might have to stay right here for a spell.
It is usually in our guestroom.

We also pulled this bench into service.

And my favorite chippy green chair.
It was terrific to see all the occasional pieces of furniture put to use for our teen weekend.

Most of those shells, in the basket, have been given to me by strangers at garage sales.
When I express a love for shells folks usually tell me I can have them free of charge.
It is refreshing.
That generosity.

Do you buy furniture with no idea of where it's going?

It is a glorious fall day here.
I started off with a small fire in the wood stove and now I have the doors open.
I have been dusting and moving Joe's chair around I showed you on Saturday.
This room, despite it's windows, is dark so these photos are dark much to my dismay.

A reader remarked that she liked the chair but it wasn't her colors.
Same here lovey.
We have a faded cabbage rose sofa in green and pink in this very room.
One day we want a neutral cream colored sofa.
We paid all of twenty five dollars for each of the two sofas we have now.
Spending more than that is going to be difficult.

The chair does blend with our old crocks.
The butter churn was my mother's and the lamp was Joe's mother's.
We recently got the old pickle crock, beside the chair, at an estate sale.
The unframed oil painting, on the left, reminds us of our trip to Italy.
The art glass vase was a gift from one of my patients.

Please ignore my terrible hair but I adore this image of Joe.
I recently let my grey fly and will have some profile shots soon I hope.

This is my view of the fall leaves as I type.

I am still in a pickle as to where to put Joe's chair.
We will work it out.
We always do.
